Its so good the carbs completely fell off lol. Seems to pull well and no issues really besides 11.3:1 cruise and using half a tank to do 80 odd miles. bought some micro drill bits and gonna have a play with the pilot jets themselves..

made 96.1hp on the rollers at aldon on saturday, better than i thought considering a blowing standard exhaust and its only been running less than a week.. definitely room for improvement there with some fuelling tweeks etc :)

Some pictures from this weekend!

Also got some new rimzzzz, undecided on tyre size yet.. 13" 5.5j. don't want anything too skinny or so small the wheels like proper lost in the arches hmm, any thoughts?

and got some shiny bits to bodge on to the carbs :)

nice one mark! did you have the rears spaced out on the gt? looks like they fit quite well!

noticed a few imperfections that are annoying me over the weekend so going back to the body shop to have a moan on the weekend :(

love this thread, I also have a mk2 polo parade but mine is a royal blue and is sat in my garage. I have gone through this whole thread and seen what has happened to you and your polo, I cant believe that truck driver crashed into you that's really bad man. haha

I would of loved a white car, but the only reason id want a white polo is that I would put some orange alloys on it, wink wink, nudge nudge. (if you was thinking about getting some new alloys)

Awesome!

I think.... they are spaced 15mm on the back in that picture. on the front they will fit fine over VWI brakes but might need a 3mm spacer if your are running VWII with brand new pads. That's if they are exactly the same as mine.

VWI not VWII

Yeah i quite like the Royal Blue mk2's man they look completely different!

Yeah they're the same as yours mark, not actually stamped 'mahle', but stamped BMW, et 18 or 19 can't remember, 13x5.5j

I've got VWII callipers, but running VWI carriers and the pads and discs are pretty much brand new, will have to get tyres and see! Thanks again mate!:)

Actually ignore me..I don't think they were spaced out at all on the black one. One the Huyi I have to run a 3mm spacer on all wheels to clear the front and rear brake calipers. Front I'm running VWII's with VWI carriers and rear is a Mk4 golf set-up.

Opened up the pilot jet emulsion tubes from .8mm to 1mm or 1.1mm cant remeber, hasnt really made any difference tbh, still cruising at 11.3:1..

Could solder up the pilot jet fuel hole and re drill smaller, but i think its all down to the needles now, soon as i make any progress the AFR shoots over to 10:1 so gonna try a set of 600cc carbs which are tried and tested :-)

Probably ruined the cylinders now running it so rich lol

can't wait to have a crack at actually setting this up with some good carbing man, promising already

gave the car a good clean on saturday, tidied wiring up and that and gave it a polish, and had a piece of paint come off onto the foam pad from my roof!! not best pleased to say the least, taken it back to the bodyshop and they're trying to say its a stone chip.. after a bit of arguing they agreed to sort it, along with the passenger door which theyve made a mess of also.. the offending items..

on a lighter note.. gave the drums a freshen up, and tried on the mahles, which dont clear the vw2s so will get a small spacer for the fronts!

Not much progress to report.. Got some new carbs on as the 400s were shit... Car feels all round much better to drive with the 600s and is set up pretty well too. Just need to get some g40 rear seats and sort the speedo error out and i'll be pretty happy with the way it is :)

Went to stanford hall vw which was a good laugh and the clubstand was good too! :-)

FPR and oil cooler, will tidy it up and paint is mad black before fitting. acquired a k03 off andy but turns out it was cracked so on the hunt for a decent one if anyone knows of one thats good.. also went on a mission to get a derby grill and headlamps, in pretty much perfect condition and has the chrome top piece too, not fitted to the car yet so will have to see how it looks. got some lamin-x film for them too.

Need to make a start cutting the rain tray out too, longg

  • 1 month later...

boooo derby lights!

Love this car and hats off to you for all the effort you've put in because it really shows.

Just a bit of advise with fitting the turbo, try not to cut or remove the rain tray I know its tight for room but the rain tray really does a lot of good. You will find fumes can get in to the cabin easily and the noise levels will rise plus on a longevity note you will destroy any value your car has in the future and I know that everyone thinks these cars aren't worth anything but that's simply not true the value of these cars is going to rocket in the next two years especially limited edition ones like yours.

Please don't take this as me having a go because I really am not, I'm very interested in how you will make the turbo work with the carbs as this is something I would love to do myself.
