6n2 Tdi SWAPS?

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Right I'm a total noob with the polo scene :-( so go easy and not sure if this has been asked much but cant find much info about it.

Just wondered if someone could shed some light on it.

Basically looking at buying a 6n2 tdi (maybe 9n but prob looking 6n2) and I am aware of a few mods that can be done for performance e.g: remap and straight through,

but (heres come the noob questions) what else can be done ? can injectors be changed? turbo? front mount? etc...

Also been reading that a mk3 ibiza is the same as the 6n2 ? maybe wrong if so correct me :-) and I know that the ibiza did a 1.9 tdi and I believe they didnt in the 6n2? and was wondering if anyone knows that the swap could be made ? or any other diesel 1.9's would fit? cause a 1.4 is tad small compared to the 1.9.

Or know of anyone who has perhaps already done such a swap?

But yeah.. any info or advice on this would be very much appreciated :-)

sorry for the noobnes :/

Thanks Guys,

Dale

Bump..

1.9 tdi engines are a ball ache to fit Similar to a 1.8t work wise iirc.

Best power mod is a remap, personally I wouldnt bother with the cheap tuning boxes.

Have a search dude there's loads of info out there, on here club Lupo and the tdi forum.

Cheers for the info man, :)

yeah id do remap over the tuning boxes all day so much better, yeah I've been searching round just trying to see what people have down to the 1.4 tdi lumps id just love to get round 130 be a real decent bit of power in a polo aswell :)

I've been in a lupo tdi which had been remaped was real quick considering thats all that had been done.

is the 1.4 tdi in the 6n2 pd do you know ? and if so they a good engine? do you get problems when you remap or up the bhp much?

I think id be happy with remap, straight through+decat, decent air intake think that would be fairly nippy :)

yes they are pd engines so 5w40 oil only to protect the cams.

remap will give you 1oo. thata the main one.

i tried a jetex filter other day. no hit in fuel comsumption but there seemed to be less turbo lag. i have gone back to original setup but I'm gonna get rid of the induction silence box.

they are good engines. i know someone whos got around 400000 miles on one. as long as you maintain them.

i will be doing cat back soon then i might get the remap once i sought out mad issues

Whats the most popular problem with them would you say well if there is ? :-)

yeah be nice with a good cat back on it and de cat I take it?

yeah few lads round by me run apexi air filters on there dervs but they bodg the pipe so it sits by there grilles for extra air feed.

I really cant wait to get one tbh well cant wait to just get a dub still little undecided 6n2 tdi, 9n tdi or a lupo tdi kill for any aha,

when you get the cat back and map should be ace man :-)

should get a vid up :p

comon problems coolant temp sensor, old style brake light switch. only small things. headgasket problems rare unless serious neglect. use good oil aswel. 5w40 505.01.

tdis already have a cold air feed as standard. alot of people will think wtf but there is little if anything to be had using an aftermarket induction kit. like i said i tried one and I'm sure the trubo spooled up quicker but maybe that was just in my mind. at least i got a nice roar. but i would just stick to the OE airfilter tbh and remove the silencer. I've heard using a foam filter does filtrate good enough and k&n and oiled ones can ruin the maf. debatable.

mafs are a huge prob and gunked up egr/manifolds can be too. i bought an egr delete and will be putting that in when i have time. i like the lupo tdis, same engine as the 6n2s youl get good milage too. however if you go for 6n2 get 5door with CL etc. the lupos are only in 3 door (i think)

  • Author

ah nothing major then thank god :-) yeah oil is a big must with all i guess,

thats quite odd that they have them standard tbh :s ah id stick with what your saying then not worth it really rather just de cat n straight through pipe :-)

yeah egr deletes ftw :p, id go 3 door with both tbh I'm a 3dr lover unless its a bora :-)

i was reading on the lupo forum that somones dropping the fabia vrs pd 130 in one :o is that possible ? or should i ask is that possible in a 6n2 ? :o

and then also was speaking to a guy on there whos getting 135-140 out of his tdi cause he used turbo nozzle off a 1.9 tdi golf (dont take my word if its true just what he was saying to me)

it might be true but i dont know. i will not be upgrading injectors ever though, unless they fail lol :D if you do get the remap after.

Not worth bothering with injectors and that, remap, decent filter and exhaust will see around 110bhp and that's plenty for these

Intercooler wise the standard one is good for up to 150bhp IIRC but you'll never make that out of the 1.4 block, just the basic three mods will leave you with a car that'll surprise people of the lights and still get 70+ mpg on the long run

They are impressive for a 1.4 dont get me wrong, it does shock lots of people when you drop the box on them :p

but I'm just trying to get in some decent ideas and info on what has been done what gets what out of it and what could be possible with them,

I mean if you spent a load on it making it yours with body work wheels ice god knows just throwing money at it, you wouldnt really want to get rid but i mean like if you wanted more power cause you wasnt fully happy with it what can get it up more..

obviously now this thread has shown me the best and easiest upgrades for power which I thank you all for doing :)

just wondered if swaps has ever been done and if so what has been done, like imagine one of these with a 130 lump in it like a fabia pd130? or ok maybe a 110 lump from golf or ibiza ? then tune that to round 150?-160? now that would shock people on the road :p

Yes I know when I say this people turn round say its to much work or to expensive but I'm just trying to see if it would work, or even fit in these? I just really not sure what is possible sadly :/ hence this thread :-)

but hey thanks to you all for the info has helped a lot tbh :-) and hey its a chat about cars we like right ? so who cares thats what its all about :-)

Anyone thought of a hybrid turbo conversion? would get a bit more power out of it maybe a Frount mount as well?

  • Author

Now that sounds like a good idea :p

like the idea of the hybrid for one that would be sweet tbh

Well this is what a stage 2 hybrid turbo from turbo dynamics can do according to "them"

"Car - Audi A3 1.9 TDi 130BHP engine ASZ engine code, year 2001 to 2004, OEM No 038253016F / 03P253016Q

MD446 - Stage 2 Hybrid Turbo comprises:

Hi flow GT20 compressor wheel

Re-profiled compressor housing to suit

360 degree thrust bearing

Modified turbine wheel blades to reduce backpressure

Blueprinting of turbo to motorsport standards

Estimated Power Output: Approx 220-240 BHP "

Theres no reason why you couldn't get a similar increase in power from the 1.4 tdi I'm not saying you will get 240bhp from sticking a new turbo on but i think with the below mods you could see 150bhp or slightley more not sure what the standard internals can take on these engines.

Hybrid Turbo + Front Mount

Air filter, Downpipe and exhaust

Re-map to suit the mods

If needed injectors

To go hybrid turbo on the 1.4, I think you'd need to uprate the internals if you wanted to push anything other than standard psi on the boost front

Remember that these have variable geometry units on them so a standard type turbo might see more power but horrific lag!

But then again, swapping the engine would be best for serious gains, fabia engines or anything based on the polo chassis should slot in however I fear that going the engines from a golf chassis would encounter the same tall block issues you get with the petrol engines

hmmmm so be better off basically a fabia, a ibiza emgine should be pretty easy swap? what if their not a Pd engine ? would that be more difficult?

Fabia and ibiza are big blocks hence why the polo only got a 1.9 tdi pd in the 9n onwards, tight fit in a 6n2 or lupo.

  • Author

Hmmmm :/ what to do what to do :/

Its a shame they didnt come with one would be sweet :)

how hard do we think this swap would be ?

Ah fair enough, couldn't remember if they were or not

Very, the problem is the engine is considerably taller than the 1.4 and you'll either not be able to shut the bonnet or have serious sump issues, its a lot of custom fabrication work in terms of mounts and possibly moving the turrets etc. fair play if you want to give it a go but in my mind, its just not worth it, the power to weight ratio will be better with the 1.4, and the 1.9's will add another 100kg or so for not much more power overall

  • Author

Ah right to much work for that much power way to much work :L

think ill stick to remap n the common tuning :)

thanks for the help and info though mate :) been a real great help:)

what bhp would be a realistic figure to squeeze out of the 1.4? without having to uprate internals, dont fancie going that far :/

There's loads of info all across the forums about changing internals ect, might be worth a mention that our little polo engines use a wastegate turbo set up and it's the 90 bhp audis that used the VNT set up.

Personally I'm just going to stick to a remap (I'm going to be using blacksmokes DIY method when my lead finally gets here), and then I may lop the back box off in favour off a straight pipe, Al from awesome swears by this mod and I'm leaving the filter alone due to issues with the MAF and I don't believe there a big restriction.

This should safely see around 100 bhp, and I don't see the point in going much further on an Eco engine IMO.

  • Author

yeah been looking round all day now :p ah thats something i didnt know about the wastegate tbh

yeah I've seen the lop done does seem really good tbh :)

just wondering (sorry but yano how it goes:$) with the 9n pd100 can you put the pd 130 turbo or injectors on them?

only wondering cause i know you can with the pd110 or heard its been done :)

just a thought :)

From what iv read changing injectors is pointless, the standard items flow more than enough for basic mods. All you will do is throw more fuel in. Have a look at the TDI Forum there's so much info there, you might want to think about cleaning the inlet mani and I/C as these have been known to clog up with shite from the EGR gasses mixing with crank case vapours although this affects the larger PD engines more.

Ill look on some of them now thanks :)

ah thanks for that tip, didnt know they clogged up tbh :$
