I bought a mk3, bumpers & arch trims and such were all faded and tired looking.

I've read various methods. But was then recommended a product which actually restores it (read up on it, it reacts with the plastic)

Expensive you may think?

Yes it is a tiny bottle. But that covered a front and rear mk3 bumper, arch trims, side trims, sill trims, door handles and mirrors.

It's supposed to last 24 months; however the state of some plastics I wouldn't be so sure.

It has restored mine to look new. Not overly glossy and it isn't sticky!

IMO definitely worth the money, as I now don't need to have to keep reapplying it and buying more and more back to black sticky silicone based shit.

A few people asked what I had used at the Poloshow after seeing how fresh the trims looked, so thought I'd share.

Heres how I did mine:

Jet washed with a degreaser

Scrubbed with a nail brush and degreaser chemical

Dried

Cleaned with panel wipe.

Applied the product, a little goes a long way.

I may redo the bumpers as these were faded, but I was impressed with results, totally changes the appearance of the car.

My neighbour is a car Valeter/detailer and he recommended it, had never used himself but friends in the trade had, we were both impressed when we did it, and two weeks later it's still looking the same (minus some mud courtesy of billing aquadrome)

No because it bonds into the plastic molecules, henc why it's expensive and works lol

Next i used paint. Like manufacturers do. That was four years ago..

some people use brake fluid (sparingly) on black rubber.

Clear, ink, no. It's not the stuff i used then (though that also claimed to bond with the molecular structure or some jargon like that), but i still give it four months.

Sounds good for ease of use, if you can just wipe it on.

its literally a tiny clear bottle of liquid, apply it basically with a cotton pad.

i know someone who used it on the b post trims on an old range rover which were pretty much faded to white, but 2 years on they still look freshh :)

but hey, i guess i need to consider in polo ownership anything more than £5 is far too expensive

Like Mark, I use Autoglim Bumper Care, it's cheap, easy to apply and has a reasonable life span.

Looks good, I use to use a little black meguirs bottle, but I found it use to fade when the rain trickled down the corners! Slightly annoying, how's it respond to that?? I can't drive ATM due to surgery, and my car is on the drive waiting a good clean! Might have to join you on this bottle if it's good against the H2O

It isn't a coating, it reacts with the plastic so it doesn't run as its permanently there. Hence lasting. Not put anything else on mine and still look sweet.
