Morning guys, my names joe I'm 20 and from leicester. just picked up my first vw today a 1987 mk2 polo saloon with the 1043 engine and a 5 speed box...

made a 100 mile journey back well just stalling a bit on approach to junctions but going to service it and check the carb bottom gasket.

i love it already got some plans for it and ill keep this thread updated.

needs some dent sorting and some welding but cant wait to get stuck in..

Plans are to go silly low and silly wide with a 1043 engine rebuilt with a gt cam and gsxr 600 bike carbs, with a full s/s exhaust system, and maybe some more goodies

Great to see another loon on here. Especially in polaris silver - my colour.

looks nice mate good to see another loon saved from the scrappie. was going to bike carb my 1043cc, you will probably need 400cc carbs as 6s are a bit too big. I have some that i might sell with inlet mani and gt cam i will keep you in mind if come to sell them

havnt fitted it yet just collecting all the shit to do it a once, then i ran out of money lol

I'm guessing it will especially with carbs and a four speed box

had some starting issues with it last week and it not idleing. i fitted a new starter motor and messed about with the carb cleaned the jets etc and now its running perfect, love how simple these engines are to work on.

Getting the ball rolling Saturday, getting the welding done, new fuel tank fitted, new track rod end, new lower arms etcc...

Also took some deliveries of some vw teardrops that I'm gonna polish up, mk1 golf rear coileys, got some wood and oak boards ready for false floor,

And had some more plans for it :) will update with pics Saturday

If you're fitting mk1 golf coilies to the rear you'll need to change to some different rated springs. I did it on a coupe and it was so harsh it was undriveable.

Nice looking car.

had a good day on it yday. did the rear wheel bearing, lower arms, and the track rod end was an absolute biatch. oo and i burnt the washer pipe with a blow torch woops lol.

i also started on the boot build and started sorting the teardrops :-)

Looking at that last photo, you look like you've got some rust behind that rear plastic arch.

I'd recommend you investigate that sooner rather than later...

Mine looked similar to yours, and when I took the plastic off I found a whole world of rot. I went at it with a strong wire brush mounted on a drill last weekend and took loads of rust out, leaving me with a couple of holes, and basically an MOT failure.

The problem with the plastic arches is that they hold loads of mud that just sits there and rusts the bottom of the arch away.

Yer dude already started sorting the rust :) it is quite bad but the sills etc are solid, will be sorting the arches when I get chance but I'm putting fibreglass ones in

Started the false floor got the studding done...

And test fitted some boards and the sub fits perfectly flush :)

This is also the colour it is going...

Got the first coat on the bonnet yday, quite chuffed at how easy it is with a roller and the finish win bad once wet and dryer back a bit.. Couple more coats and should be good..

Got a few bits ordered and in the boot of the poloon here's the list so far.....

• Wide arches
• Various fillers etc
• Vibe a3 amp
• 13s to be banded
• A new DA for the bodywork
• Various sanding blocks and paper
• Loads of paints and a few decals

Need some time to sort it now,

And also contemplating engines, either 1.4 afh or 1.6 aee both on bike carbs

2nd picture down looking at your rear bumper, how have you shortened it? is it a different bumper or have you modded the standard one? looks amazing!

Just a word of caution , i would rethink the wooden structure you have fitted for the false floor , should the worse ever happen and you get rear ended you could end up with the longer lengths spearing through the backs of the seats .
