Hi guys,

I'm going to see a 6n2 GTI this weekend with the intent of buying it, and I'm looking for a little advice.

The car itself is a 2001 with about 50,000 on the clock. FSH - last one 3000 miles ago.

My 'rents were in the area recently and popped in to scope it out for me, said it's in decent condition for its age, bit worn inside and a couple scratches here and there, but overall pretty good. Wheels were apparently a little corroded, and the engine bay was looking clean (but not cleaned!)

Oh, and it's listed at around £2500...

Is there anything I should be looking out for on the 6n2 GTI?

Does the price sound a little too good to be true for such a low mileage?

and finally, how much will the timing belt change set me back? :p

Just asked my mum for some clarification on this - apparently it's not 'worn' as such. (though that's the word she used before :/ ) Seemingly it's in good condition, 'but you can tell it's been used'. ie. it doesn't look brand spanking new...

I dont imagine that the ODO has been clocked, the service history and the MOT history should verify this?

Things to be cocerned about-

Gearbox. they are weak, there is no way around it nothing stronger fits but if you drive it well you shouldn't have any issues.

Pedal Box. there was a recall however not all were fixed and the welds on the pedals break (designed to crumble in an accident to save your shins)

temp sender. causes running issues when you try to start the car hot. absolute doddle to fix.

other than that, enjoyable to drive (regardless of what people say) and a nice place to be.

Is there anyway I can feel / look for faults in the pedal box?

If there was a recall and it wasn't fixed, will it still be repaired free by VW?

We used to have a 6n2 1.4 16v SE, that I absolutely LOVED! Learnt to drive in that car, and I've missed it pretty much every day since it was sold :(

I can't say that I've had the fault personally so would have no idea unfortunately.
