so today i was stripping a front hub assembly that was lying around and managed to go through 2 3/8 to 1/4 inch addapters, 2 sockets, a mallet and a ratchet this really pissed me off but most of them were halfrauds tools so didnt think much of it until my snap-on power bar head went really wasnt my day

also, on a lighter note, what are the best tools other than snap-on in your opinion?

Iv broken loads of Snapon tools tbh, snapoff more like. Get replaced yeah but it's still annoying haha

1/4 drive tools don't have big enough balls in my opinion.

1/4 drive shouldnt exist in my opinion! snap on breaker bar heads seem worse than most of the others I've had really, yeah they get replaced but they should ast longer than they do!

Snap on stuff is alright but its just so expensive, in my opinion the older snap on tools are better and you can pick them up from decent prices on ebay

i usually use 3/8 for most things, just because most of my sockets are 3/8 and I'm too lazy to use an adapter snap on is massively over priced, its just easily accessible as mr snap on visits my road every week!

I always just use the Halfords Pro stuff. I think for an DIY Mechanic they are good enough. I've had my box for about 5 years now and may ratchets have only started to give up because when we had the floods my box was swimming around in over an inches worth of water. Only had to replace a T20 and a T45. The T45 snapped but the T25 was just worn out from lots of use. With there being a Halfords round the corner from the unit and from my house its easy to get stuff replaced. The 150 pc box was only £99 as well so I've had my monies worth out of it.

I normally buy sealey by choice (i'm told they make a lot of the halfords pro stuff). I've also got a fair bit of draper advance and its all good for the money. I tend to use impact sockets given the choice because they almost never round anything off and you can whack them onto damaged heads if you have to. I normally use half inch drive unless access is a problem.

I have a mix of Snapon, blue point & some halfords ratchet spanners. But some is heavily used.

The bluepoint socket sets are good, the one that has 1/4 inch and 3/8 inch sockets really good value for money when on offer think its about £150 and you get loads of stuff

My main rachet kit is 3/8 which i use for 10-17mm, which has a 1/4 set to 13mm for the battery drill.

I only use 1/2 for the heavy stuff (torque wrench, breaker and over 16mm).

i forgot about my draper advanced stuff, now that i think about it I've never broken any draper tools! think i need to start being a little wiser with my tool purchasing

Only ever bent a breaker bar. Other than that my Chicago pneumatic air gun snaps everything else. Tend not to use that anymore :p

I've got an ingersoll rand air gun which gets anything off, but ivesnapped a lot off t30 sockets, all blue point mind so snap on is crap however I have got some good deals like the full set of ratchet spanners for £120 :)

Tools piss me off... Got about 1500-2k worth of tools (mixture of Mac, Snap-on, Blue point, Sealey, Halfrauds and other cheap shit) and then to top it off manz gotta represent in the workshop with a decent toolbox... So 2k later I have a Mac/Kawasaki toolbox

2k!!! And it's pretty much a price of metal with a sticker... Shit is unreal the amount it costs to get a good setup as a technician!!

Right tools for the job really isn't it. If you need to tighten to a high torque, then you use a large drive. If you're only nipping up an M6 nut then 1/4" is fine. Chances are if people are breaking tools, you're using them the wrong way. I'm not a fan of breaker bars due to that poxy joint at the end. The breaker only acts as a lever to pry that joint apart. I much prefer a strrong ratchet and a piece of scaffold.

Currently reppping a mixture of snapon, blue point, tengg, mac and a few kennedy spanners and sockets. To be honest, i rarely use breaker bars, i tend to go for the bar/hammer the fuck out of the ratchet approach.

tbh, halfords professional tools are actually pretty damn good.
