Looking at some seats and harnesses for the mk3, but being a daily I don't wanna be pinned into the seat as IMO it's dangerous for visibility at junctions and such,

So I guess the inertia wheel would mount in the standard place at the bottom of the b post?

I don't like the idea of it not being mounted centrally to the seat?

you cant mount to the b post with a harness has to be on the rear bench directly behind the seat.

there are proper side view and top view mounting guidelines issued by the MSA, although i can't find my blue book for the diagram

You would still need to utilise the rear seatbelt bolt or a strut brace so they go straight back.

Just re read that and it seems you can bolt them into the original front point for the lap section.

If you make up a b post strut brace then you could mount it there.

Not sure on the mk3 but does the seat belt buckle part bolt to the tranny tunnel? Or to the seat? If its the tunnel then bolt one side of the lap section to that and the other to wear the end of the seat belt mounts to. They are fine for the lap section.

Idealy you would need a strut brace or a cage. BUT if you still had the original seat belts fitted as well as the harness( and this is being cheecky) then technically you can mount it anywhere you want...

I think it would be possible on a seat sub-frame like the on for my recaros as both parts of the lap belt would bolt to the seat frame (not that I'm entirely sure it would be safe).

Wonder if you could make a bracket that runs where the resr seats would be, bolts in where the lower mounts go but then you can centrally mount the third point to the seat hmm

Need a shoulder strap bar really but don't know where you'd mount one in a mk3, they need to be something like between 20 degrees more than 90 and 5 degrees less than 90 to avoid damaging your spine

His is more a buckle iirc. Your seatbelt eye clicks in and then the retractor goes to the fixing eye.?

You thought of running a harness's and standard belts?

Not sure whether to strip out or not tbh.

From what i can see it looks like the harnesses needs to be bolted like any other harness the only difference is there designed to be more road friendly and they have an option to lock the inertia reel to make it usable on track days also not a bad idea for a road track car as like you have mentioned its a pain in the arse wearing fixed harnesses on the road :)

I had a set in the mini, the were a ballache as fitting them at a "safe angle" and one that allows the real to operate properly didn't seem to happen. Replaced the with fixed 3 points a week later

I'm mounting mine to the rear seat belt mount points by using a long eye bolt in place of the standard bolt which should allow me to keep the rear seat belts fixing attached and have harnesses. For the lap belt part I've have 4 mount points welded in so I don't have to share the standard front mount points..

Indeed, and the ones I used (OMP) the reels wouldnt work unless it was coming out at 180degrees and dead central, which isn't easy when trying to mount them to a flat surface
