So here is my 1990 Tornado Red 1.0L 4 speed breadvan!

I'm happy with how clean it is, theres a few dents here and there, nothing major so I'm not worried. And the arches are 98% rust free! Woooo!!!

It's a bit minging on the inside, the previous owners smoked and had a dog. I've given it a quick wash and cleaned the windows and removed the bump strips.

So yeah there is it! I'm so happy with it and can't wait to touch up the bumpers with some satin black and just mince about with it a bit.

Yeah i checked my logbook and realised my mistake, i've changed it now so i don't look stupid anymore. And i have no idea where the wheels are from, like one or two have the VW centre cap thing. I don't wanna keep the alloys, i wanna put the ones on from the 6N as i think they'll look better. And yeah i was just gonna spray the bumpers and trim satin black to freshen them up. That'll work right?

Don't bother painting the bumpers, get some trip restorer. Autoglym, meguires etc all make some. Even Halford own Black Right Back spray is pretty good. Painting is a long job, and only a last resort to cover damage repair.

6N has these wheels

And i prefer them to the ones i have now so i'll chuck them on.

And i honestly thought that back to black trim stuff would be shit. I thought it would be ten times easier to spray them black surely it would last longer too?

No no, thats what it's called. Simpily tip some onto a bit of rag straight from the bottle and apply it to your bumpers gently in a circular motion. Should be about half hours work, then leave it to dry for 15-30 minutes, job done. It does just as good job as the Auto Glym stuff but costs 3x less!

Small update.

Removed any leftover glue from removing the bump strips, easy quick job.

Umm, got a bung for the de-wipered boot.

Used AutoGlym interior foam stuff on the seats, awesome stuff!

And then touched up the front bumper with..... satin black. Couldn't find the oil stuff and satin black is £4.50 a can.

Used red primer as thats all i had, came out fine in the end so no drama there.

Next update willl hopefully be fitting the springs and doing the other bumpers, i'll swap the wheels over at some point too, the 6n is a pain to get to because my drive isn't very wide. (Still need the 6n gone, if no-one wants anything i'll just scrap it)

Loving the car so much so far, over the moon with it.

nah it wasnt my bf did it and has always used normall primer before now for his bumpers and it lasted perfectly so ill see how it goes, i dont mind re-doing the bumper anyways its just

Small update, painted the spoiler thing and the rear bumper, cleaned out the boot and got new wiper blades. Also paid £5 for the exact same seats i have now just cleaner and with more cushion if that makes sense. The new drivers one also has a height adjuster lever which is awesome!

Yeah i thought you could pull it off but i wasn't sure how and i didn't wanna break it lol. Put loads of masking tape like right under it so nothing went on the bodywork. And the car looks so much better now with the black black bumpers. Sooo happy with it.

Ahh cheers for that, because they are in such good condition I'm keeping them on the polo.

No big updates, just fitted my bonnet bra and a few stickers.

Car will be in the garage soon to fit the new brakes and springs. Got my driving test soon so as soon as I've passed i plan on popping to a few scrap yards to see what Mk2s i can find and what goodies i can get to keep for spares. (Just to be prepared, i know how much of a bugger it is when you bump an old car and can't get parts)

No-one seems to be interested in my 6n (aww poor thing) so it looks like its going to scrap yard heaven next week as i really haven't got the room on the drive anymore and my BF is pestering me to sort it out lol.

Also only realised when i was hoovering that i don't have a glove compartment, the fu? So might be looking for one of them at a later date for my cd's, gotta get a CD player first (does help..)

Yeah i got a breaking thread on here. and ill be honest the wheels on the 6n are curbed a bit, thats why I'm keeping the ones on the breadvan.

No big updates atm need to save my wages up. Finally scrapped the 6n too, took the tinted lights off and stuff to sell tho cuz they were too good to scrap.

Well done for painting the bumpers anyway, i don't understand why anyone would do otherwise now.

I spent four years getting sick of putting crap on my bumpers, half the time it was looking patchy. Then it took me half an hour to take them off and paint them with satin vinyl, which i chose for finish and there being no need for primer. Five years later and i still haven't touched them (though they need doing again now). No brainer.

Exactly, they took literally minutes to do and look fab, always gonna spray bumpers from now on.

So, passed my test on Monday 20th, insured the car on Tuesday and took it for a drive.

Few problems, brakes basically didn't work (I knew i needed new brakes as i'd already bought them but omg this was bad)

And a knocking when i turned full lock, also clutch was really stiff.

Few things rattling ect.

So i wasn't too worried at first as the car was booked into the garage to have my shocks, springs and brakes fitted and i knew my mechanic would look over the car anyway.

But i didn't expect as many things as this-

Turns out my brakes were the wrong ones (livid, got a refund tho as i was sold the wrong ones)

Clutch cable was about to snap so that was changed.

Brakes lines are leaking bad.

Need new brake shoes

Shoe fitting kit

Cylinders

Track rod ends

etc etc

So car is back outside my house now, back in the garage end of next week to have everything sorted. Hello no money!

Also I'm mega gutted with my so called 80/60 shocks and springs, the front is barely 60mm :( Could i have been sent the wrong ones?

This always happens when lowering the front end of an early polo, it will never quite drop as far as the rear. (Why? I don't know.)

Another thing is, that once dropped off the jacks it will sit slightly higher until it settles down 5-10 mm or so.

Bad to hear about brake lines, at least all the parts are fairly cheap (just ordered new discs and pads myself) BUT, this is what is to be expected with a car that is older than yourself! (or than me anyway)

At least once you have all this sorted out you know it will be right and you will have your own solid motor.

Yeah don't get me wrong when it went in the garage to have the springs and brakes done I was expecting there to be a few things that needed changing, I suppose i'm just impatient and eager to go for a good drive in it, got a bloody full tank too lol. I suppose now once it's all done it will be like a brand new car! And yeah it's been two days since fitting the springs and the front is still not that low, really disappointed!
