My Tornado Red Mk2 Breadvan!

Featured Replies

got a bloody full tank too

Well that's always good, you have yourself a fuel tank that doesn't leak :)

Will have to get one of those myself.

Have you any pictures of the car as it is now? If all else fails you could raise the rear up so that it at least doesn't have reverse rake.

Ok so got the car back from the garage today, it still needs to go back in as i need new top mounts, booo!!

Went out for a drive and I'm having a bit of a nightmare! My rear n/s wheel/tyre is scrubbing/rubbing/not sure, really bad, but I'm not sure what on, as it's not on the springs or the arch. It's a million times worse with my partner in the passenger seat, barely noticeable on my own, only when i hit dips/bumps in the road.

I'm thinking just incase it is the arch I'm going to heat up the arch with my heat gun and use my rubber mallet to gently hit the arch out. And i'm also now on the hunt for 13's, preferably with lower profile tyres on. Or i suppose even 14's with low profiles on. Anyone on here got any going cheap send me a PM please!!

Ok so it was the tyre rubbing in the arch, all been sorted now with a little bit of ghetto lip rolling lol.

Top mounts are going to be done asap and after that the car will be spot on, i've really been enjoying driving it even tho the steering wheel is far too big for me. Not having power steering is also very hard to deal with as I'm not very strong.

Got a lovely new CD player fitted at Halfords, makes a big difference for me now on the boring drive to work!

Will get some pics up soon been really busy in work.

looking nice izz, I have those number plate surrounds down here if you want them, they are south hereford garages ones, nice and OEM+. Let me know if you want them

Ok getting really annoyed now, car keeps cutting out every two seconds when its cold. Its sort of ok when its warm but it still wants to cut out. Got a new battery but its made no difference. I think its the alternator then. Just getting fed up. Its embarrassing.

what else have you tried?

Have you cleaned out the carburettor/adjusted air screw/adjusted idle?

What about plugs? Are they okay?

Neva give up

Won't be the alternator as it would die, and not start again. Give the carb a bit of a clean. How does it idle?

Does it die when idling or when giving it gas too? Make sure you have all the vacuum lines correctly attached before you start adjusting the carburettor, could be that simple sometimes.

Good point, start with the simple things!

Thanks for all the replys! I'm 100% sure it's sorted now, I changed the fuel filter to a smaller one to make sure it was getting enough fuel then I adjusted the idle and straight away it was spot on. Went for a drive and it didn't cut out once and it sounds alot better ticking over now. Yay!

Apart from that the car has been fine, just need to find the time to jack it up and get my part number off my spring as I was sent the wrong ones and for some reason the divers side one is knocking really bad. Not had great fun talking to Philj about it he's not been helpful at all. Nevermind we'll see how it goes.

So sad news I'm afraid.

Went to Ikea in Cardiff last night for a MX5 meet, came home around 11.30pm to find someone has gone on my drive and tried to steal my car. They first used a bar to pry the door open, that didn't work so they smashed the window open, broke the steering lock, ripped the ignition thing apart and tried to start it.

I'm devastated. I cried my eyes out all night. There's no way I'm keeping it now, it was targeted for it's age and I'm not going to spend money fixing the ignition stuff for it to happen again.

Someone can have it for £400 if they want it, given i've spent a fair amount recently getting it all lovely. The small window was smashed, not the main one, they smashed the small window, reached in to wind down the big window and got in that way. Damage to the pillar is minimal, few scratches.

Just put 6 months tax on it, MOT till May 7th 2013.

I'm gutted :crybaby:

If it means enough to you then you'd keep it. Thefts happen, luckily for you it was a unsuccesful one.

Thats the thing, i love the car so much, but i don't live in a good area, it was targetted for the age and i don't have the time or money to sort it.

And i feel violated in a way, like, thats MY car, and someone tried to steal it. I felt sick to my stomach last night, was crying in work today and everything. I dunno, i'm heartbroken.

Then dont make any rash decisions given your all emotional, get yourself sorted before thinking about sorting or coming up with a decision on the car.

Consider a gate post that collapses or gates long term. A removeable steel post infront of your car wouldnt be that expensive and could stop theft and might well be a deterant for them trying again.

Yeah i have gates on my drive anyway (I'm renting so can't do anything permenant) but they were left open because i was only out for a few hours and i was going to move the cars when i got back anyway. The car isn't always kept on the drive, my partners car is normally on the drive and i block the drive with my car as its used more often. Funny how the first time i actually put the car on the drive something like this happens. Even if i did fix the car, it'll be kept on the street again as usual, and an easy target again. I could get an alarm etc i know, but it's already happened once on a quiet estate with all of my neighbours in, it could well happen again anyway even with the alarm going off. Overall I'm just so annoyed that it's happened to me, i didn't deserve it. They weren't even after the CD player or my sunglasses or anything because they were left in there. Their only reason for doing it was to steal it and probably burn it out.

Whoever did it was stupid tho, my car was driven onto the drive, so would've had to have been reversed off the drive. Now even with my car cutting out when cold, i highly doubt they had any idea how to put it into reverse either, even i was confused when i first got the car. (Push down reverse whaatt??) So even if they did by a miracle start it and keep it running, they would've crashed getting off my drive. Thieves are not very smart when it comes to stealing cars then eh?

The position of the reverse gear is hardly radical. I'm sure they would have worked it out. But regardless, that isn't the point here. It's a shit thing to happen. I had my car broken into, well, I left it unlocked and was robbed!, my fault  but this was in a village in the most middle class area of England! It can happen anywhere. A hefty steering lock would be a nice deterent in future, as well as keeping all valuables out of the car.

I have all the parts you need to repair the car (if it's just the quaterlight and barrel surround. Could maybe sort you an ignition barrel too if thats knackered) so don't rush into decisions about getting rid. Easy and cheap to replace, thats the beauty of these cars. If your BF is any type of gentleman, he'll let you on the drive now and his car can live on the street

Chin up. Shit happens on the reg. Be thankful they didn't burn her out and chalk it up to experience. People on here will rally round and help where they can to get this back on the road for you. Last thing anyone here wants is a loved polo to fall into the hands of the scrappy, or some yound scrote who'll do worse than torch her, like slamit on 16s (or something equally ghey  )

Yeah because i've been crying so much (Oh emotional me haha) and i had work today i haven't really had a good gander inside, all i saw upon first inspection was a bunch of wires where my ignition barrel would be and glass, i grabbed my work stuff and ran into the house to sob while my BF covered the car up.

If you have everything i need i will 100% have it all PLEASE. (ALSO ON THE LOOK OUT FOR AN ALARM NOW THEN.... :? )

And my BF had a funny idea of semi-fixing my little broken window with some perspex he has but ideally i want glass lol.

I think even if i fix the car i'd still want to move. Well, i have an appointment to view a house tommorrow lol, I AM EAGER! In a much nicer area too, drive, garage etc.

I dunno, if you have the stuff to fix it i'll have it. But i deffo wanna move if i fix it.

Really sorry to hear that, makes me feel sick to be honest.

Cheers, i was a mess last night, proper felt sick to my stomach about it. It's a horrible feeling :(

Well let me know what you need, and I'll let you know if I have it. I know I have the things mentioned above, but if there's anything else, then I can have a look for it. Got lots of stuff! Hooray if you decide to keep, boo if you get rid!

Push down reverse, confusing robbers since Yesterday some time around 3
