Perspex the window, fix the wiring, tape up the coweling time being and just enjoy the car for the time being while looking for a job to fix it i say.. I wish you the best of luck. Times are a bit hard and shit at the moment but roll on show season next year!!

Is this Jack James?

And already got another job haha. I don't hang about.

Still not sure what to do tho, i can perspex the window easy as i happen to have some. I can buy the parts to fix the ignition from a chap thats commented on page 2. But it was targetted because of its age and I'm so worried about it being done again. The only cars on my road are new cars so have alarms, immobilisers ect. I don't. And now i have a job again after a long 2 days of being unemployed (lol) i need a reliable car. A car i can wake up to in the morning and find is exactly where i left it, and hasn't been stolen.

What's broken? Just the driver's quarterlight? I think I've got one sat round here somewhere you can have for the price of postage.

As for stopping them nicking it - get a disclok, they're cheap enough second hand on ebay and nicking a car with one on's near impossible if you're intending to drive away. Block it in with one of your other toys and they've got no chance.

Yeah its the quarter window infront of the drivers window. If you have the glass and can post it (fingers crossed it won't smash during delivery lol) then i'll take it please!

Thinking i might get a really good alarm too.

SEE WHAT I MEAN! I'm totally in two minds about keeping it.

I'll take the glass tho 100%, even if i keep it or sell it, because its better than perspex.

PM'd - don't let the bastards get to you!

Ok so window is sorted thanks to Yeti (Thank you!!)

Need to figure out how to fit it once i've recieved it, i have some silicone that my BF has used before now to fit wing mirror glass and it's been great. So i'm thinking i'll clear out all the smashed glass still in the frame, then pop the glass in, then on the inside go around the edges with the silicone to stick it in?

Sorry if what I'm suggesting is completely wrong i've never had to do anything like this before, never thought i'd have to!

Window fitting is easyyy, the glass is on rubbers and is held in the door with a steel strip thats easy to remove :D

-Wind main window down

-Pull off doorcard (screws in various places, under handle and that) I'm not sure of the locations on mk2's but they should be fairly accessable.

-remove window rubber strips on the main window bottom (pull upwards)

- there is a strip that has 1 10mm head bolt and a phillips screw. The screw is at the top of the door and can be seen with the door open the 10mm head one can be seen once the doorcard is removed just below the metal strip.

-Remove said steel strip backwards initially to release it from the 1/4 window and then downwards into the door cavity and the window (whats left) and rubber will pull backwards above the main window.

Refit is reverse of removal.

Buy a haynes manual, it will GREATLY improve your chances of success :-)

Bad news guys.

Finally un-covered the car and had a good look at it, first time since it happened to find that i did put the steering lock on, and who-ever tried to steal my car must've been strong because they've completely buggered my steering column. Phoned my mechanic and he said the whole thing would have to be replaced. So i'm just gonna have to scrap yet another Polo. I'm not going to spend another large sum of money on it for something to happen to it again or worse, i haven't even got the money to do it so it's not even an option.

To say I'm gutted is an understatement. I'm 100% fed up with trying to have something nice for it to get ruined.

If anyone wants anything off it please let me know asap.

you need a coloumn..... or atleast to bend it back.... whats wrong, sure yeti monster will have something, hes full of all sorts of shit, parts that is.

The whole thing will need changing, by the seems of it where they've yanked my steering wheel so hard to get the steering lock off they've completely buggered it all, i can turn the steering wheel but my wheels don't move and it clicks weird every few turns. I gave my mechanic a ring straight away and he said the whole thing will need replacing. God knows how much it'll all cost, not to mention how the hell would i even get it to my mechanics?

And after all that whats to say the people who tried to steal my car won't try again? Or be pissed off at the fact that i've fixed it and just vandalise it or something? I hate being in this position, it's so unfair. I didn't deserve this at all.

I'll happily sell the car for £300 to someone on here who wants it as a project, it's a rust free shell ffs! 6 months tax, 9 or so months MOT, just had a shit ton of work done to it at my mechanics, brake lines, brake pads and discs, brake shoes, track rod arms, rear beam sorting, top mounts ect. It's like a brand new car, not to mention the brand new battery and brand new CD player.

I just need a car for work that i know won't be an easy target for theives, like one with central locking, an immobilser ect.

No! Don't break it. It's an easy fix really. 2 allen bolts under the steering wheel cowling, wiggle the third free. Undo the steering column clamp (near the pedals). Take steering wheel off and disconnect horn. Replace with a different column/lock. Simples

If you weren't so far, I'd come do it for you

Ohh thats very nice of you to say. But i really can't afford to be spending anymore money fixing it and stuff :( I don't really have the time either. All i was hoping for out of this car was to enjoy driving it and improve it/modify it as i go. I start a new job next week and need a car to get back and forth, one i know won't be targetted by theives looking for an easy car to steal.

I'm really gutted dont get me wrong, i wanted to keep this car forever, but I'm so paranoid now i sleep with my bedroom light on, hoping a potential theif would think I'm awake in my bedroom and would therefore hear any suspicious activity outside.

So yeah if anyone wants anything please let me know, or if you want the whole car minus the brand new cd player (i really like it) its yours for £300 :(

Fixing it would probably be cheaper than buying and insuring a new car, fuck load less hassle too.

I got a car sorted already, i'm going to be using my BFs brothers 2004 Peugot 206 thats been on my drive since January because he doesn't want it lol. Cheaper to insure as a named driver on a policy with my BF then it is to insure the Polo, i've also phoned my insurance and to cancel my policy on my Polo i would get a £40 refund because i've already paid for next months insurance.

Don't get me wrong i don't wanna do this but as i've said i'm just so paranoid about something happening to it again, and i feel weird about my car now, knowing someone else has been in it.

If you want something enough you'll do what you can to keep it. Maybe a new car is for the best though.

A local boy is thinking of buying the breadvan, if he does ill be over the moon! Quick question, anyone got a steering column for sale? Cheers.

  • Author

Ok, Polo has now been sold to a local boy, his friend has a Breadvan too, so i'm sure they'll have plenty of fun!

To be honest tho seeing it being driven away was hard to see, i want it back already!

I'm going to put a wanted up in the "wanted" section (duhh) for a steering column, it was ok to drive once it was moving but when it was stationary/moving off it was really stiff so i've said i'll get a steering column for him as he's not familiar with the forum.

If anyone who reads this has one please please please PM me.
