Congratulations mate, unfortunately I have not experienced all of that yet so can't help you much but I'm sure someone be able to answer those questions.

I hear that a coat hanger is the cheapest option...

I joke obviously, congratulations fella  as above I have no experience in this department, maybe tell your boss and ask for a cheeky pay rise... He can only say no !!

This is what I tried to convince the misses this time, unfortunately she didn't go for it so now I have the cost of another unwanted kid on my shoulders, women can be so selfish at times

Congrates tho mate. As for the scans and what not, a visit to her doctor will have her pointed in the right direction. Think they do a test just to be sure and then he will get her an appointment at the hospital to see a midwife or some shit, from there they will let her know when her next appointment will be ect

 Thats where your going wrong you dot try to convince them, just wait until she's sleeping :lol:

Monumental guidance and support, you get instructions and stuff. We had a kid 14 months ago, there was something wrong with ours but they wouldn't swap it for a different one. Still, the hospital people have taken us through the whole system and made it as easy as possible.

Mum makes the milk (baby's mum, not yours), she just needs to eat/drink more, it's not too expensive if you shop at Aldi or eat round family's houses regularly. You ain't got to buy all the clothes/toys/etc, you'll find people give you stuff. Not all of it new, but all good. Pass on what you don't want.

If you go on to fake milk, use the ready-made stuff. It cost a bit more but it's so much easier, plus the baby tends to be quieter on it, and not go wrong as much.

run, run for the hills and dont look back! :p

seriously though congrats dude, feels good when you first find out doesnt it :)

i dont really have much experience as my missus miscarried 8 months but what MikeyMK said sounds about right :)

Whats this coat hanger technique? i may errr, be needing it..... :?

Congrats mate, all the best with the mood swings :p

Congrats dude. It seriously is an awesome experience. I used to think I never wanted kids, but now I wonder why I didn't do it earlier.

I now have a 3 year old and my main advice is:

1. Get lots of sleep now, you'll need it.

2. Definitely use the cartoned milk after you move on. It's so much less hassle to carry around too.

3. Whatever you get second hand, get a brand new car seat. It's like a bike helmet, you never know what has happened to it in the past. If they get dropped, you need a new one.

4. Go to car boot sales for toys and baby clothes, in nice areas. People sell stuff off for peanuts (I do, usually 50p per item), and at the youngest ages, their only in the stuff for a few months so don't break the bank on new stuff. Just make sure it's not screwed.

5. Ask at work if you can build up for extra time over the next several months and use it when the baby is born. I built up a week and used 2 weeks holiday. Paternity leave regulations in this country are bullshit.

6. No matter how stressed you feel by the whole thing, just remember the reason you feel that way is tiredness, not because someone or you other half has pissed you off for real.

7. Do your share of everything. No matter how grossed out by things you might be, it helps you bond with your child. Women have the luxury of feeling like they have the child before it's born, for guys they don't really have anything until it's dropped in your lap.

8. Take pictures a lot.

9. Ask your parents and grandparents and anyone for advice, but only do what YOU feel is the right thing. Parenting is something that all of us have built into us and your gut instinct about something is usually correct.

10. Parents love looking after grandchildren.

11. Do your night feeds with the lights off. It helps them fall asleep again and stops them developing the fear of the dark thing.

12. Don't feel guilty about letting them cry themselves to sleep sometimes. You will learn the difference between, hungry cry, got wind cry, overtired cry and fake cry (this comes later).

13. Enjoy every moment you can of when they are little. It's not long before they can run around by themselves and don't stop talking.

14. Your childs mood is linked to yours. If you are relaxed, they will be (mostly).

15. Try and get the birthing pool at the hospital. My wife said it really helped.

16. No mater how much people say, and what they say, it's your kid and you get to say what is best for them.

Sorry, thought that was going to be a shorter list.

cheers for the replies guys alot of help :) gunna get here to ring the docs next week ill keep you posted :-D

Congrats bud

yeah the doctors should put you on to various classes to learn stuff.

Your girlfriend will also want to make some "mummy" friends as her friends wont be able to relate as much any more.

we got loads of stuff for free from people. there are so many things to tell you.

Be prepared to turn into a different person the moment you hear the heartbeat when you go to one of the scans.

Can't beat free shit

Be prepared for things to get properly hard tho, ladies can go crazy during pregnancy and with the added stresses and strains going on already any little thing can erupt into a massive argument :-(

Get ready for strange cravings .. One of my mums mates said she got cravings for coal :S ?? wtf lol

dafuq

Always support the baby's back and neck untill they can support them self. Seen this hurt babies before and it's not a pretty sight.

Learn about baby cloths sizes and pampers, the right size will save you alot of time trying to dress an unwilling child and too tight or loose pampers will cause leakage, again not a pretty sight.

Keep the baby warm even if you're not cold! a sick baby or child is a terrifying sight.

Talk to your unborn baby as it grows, don't feel stupid about it, it's your child take it serious, studies have shown and proven that unborn babies that were spoken to by their mothers and fathers develop speak very quickly
