In reply to OP i'd not get the jackson tuning ones, a mate had them and i was in the car with him this one time, on the way to band camp... Quite happily driving along and then BOOOM they start arguining, should hear the language out of them. he then have to start swirving and pressuring them into stopping, very annoying. Might be his bad experiance but he didnt get on with them, clash of personalities.... Maybe too similar, they are both very firm and smaller than average.... (height wise).

I hear gareth or some dude is making Harris_racing's and they are shit at feedback and emails and updates too.....

They're budget coilovers. In a real world outside kids decking polos they're absolute cheap shite. But what do you want from them?

Mate, want to do my brake lines? My local hydraulics place i was gna get to do them have crimp fixings not screw fixingz and i cant get them cheap anywhere

Best bet is a rally prep/supplies place, local hydraulics place was a rip off in swansea

the fittings were the most expensive part, the straight ends were £5 odd a piece.

Think mine were jackson not sure got them second hand, budgets work for a lot of people.

Even the budgets cost more than a decent condition mk3 polo, don't see the logic in spending more than the budget Coilover cost of £500 on a car that doesn't cost much more, and is being driven around the town and not on a race track

I fitted some new phil j coilovers on my mk 2 y day, they are stiff with a lil tad of body roll. Tbh i actaully find them a pretty gd ride, although i bad been driving sitting on the bump stops before hand so maybe thats why lol.

I would Just get the fronts tho, u can pick up rear springs and shocks with the adjustable seat fairly cheap

Oh and on mine i removed the helpers so that prob stiffened the ride up a tad

Although they are from the same range as the rest of the budget TA's, these have had more work put into the spring and dampers, so are nothing like the 86c shock and springs nor the 6n coils. These aren't "choppy" although as with any suspension unit if you sit it on the bump stops they won't drive well.

You say that, but where do you think they got the spec's from in the first place?

I've heard nothing but good things from Higgo and his dad after they fitted them to his dads MK1!

I don't see how much of what you've said has any relevance to the coilover (you've never experienced) that you're trying to knock.

Are you trying to say no work has been put into the ratings? Or that they have mearly stiffened the front? Or that they aren't balanced? If so what basis have you got for any of that?

Suspension as you say is a matter of opinion. Yes you can do all those things, but when you buy a suspension kit the beauty is that's done for you. You take whoever has done the number's opinion on it. You'd be suprised with how many of the bigger manufacturers just go 30% uprated over stock figures without even sending an engineer out in a car to get their opinion on it.

Short of spending £700 on adjustable dampers and a kit where you're told the spring ratings you don't have much of a choice. Most people can't be arsed and don't even know what relevance the spring and damper rate does to the suspension. Alot people just want to go 80mm on their shiny new wheels. I appreciate your experience stems from an 80mm 6n on budget coilovers which has taught a harsh lesson. The first 6n lot of which gave them the bad name was spec'd by the manufacturer who have probably never seen a 6n polo. The new lot are better, but going back to the mk3 coilovers as I've said before, they are nothing like those...

For example I wouldn't call a set of coilovers that are £465, budget coilovers? You could call them that because they are the cheapest available, but they are hardly budget. Now my opinion on it is they rode nothing like a choppy "budget" kit with the springs I spec'd, untill it was sat on the bump stops. My basis for that argument is I gave these coilovers a thorough testing in a 180ish hp polo turbo, to the point where every part around the car failed, but in those hard miles put on the car I had no issues with the actual coilover units. The ride quality at 60mm compared to various other kits was good due to the short spring and helper setup, and mainly the matched damper length and rating. Then there was noticeably less bump steer because the steering arm was lowered, and you could setup the mk3 polo so it actually sat level.

Nup, I thought the same but Harris deleted his own. The only one that a mod's deleted was a double post at the top.

I deleted them because my opinion was taken completely the wrong way.

I tried to shed a different light on something due to my own knowledge and experience not aimed directly at the kit in question and was shot down for it.

I'll keep my knowledge from what I do day to day to myself and anyone else who asks me for help in future

This thread now makes no sense.

TBH people said that the fixed phillJ lowering kit was too hard and crashy, they were for the first week but after that they have been fine.

Imo there too soft lol
