Rattle In The Rear Of 6n

Featured Replies

Not sure if any of you guys on here can help?

Got this rattle in the rear of my polo and not a clue where its coming from, i've stripped everything out of it. and i mean pretty much everything except the front seats. had all rear panels off boot lifters, the lot and its still there. Sounds like lego in a plastic pot or something but not a clue where its coming from?

anyone had a similar thing and been able to resolve it atall?

I know its not the spare, seatbelts, lights or suspension, or anything under the rear side panels. but stumped for what else to search? :/

any help much appreciated =]

Inside the tailgate? Take the panel off and see if anything's in there or loose

been dewipered, and have taped down everything that i could think would rattle, only option i have left i can think of is there's maybe a stone somewhere in the bumper or summin maybe.

Missing suspension bush?

nah suspension is all there. have taken it apart a couple times. cannot figure out where this is coming from haha

I have the same problem, only since its been de-wipered but mines more of a squeaky rattle if you get me... Can't for the life of me sort it

rather than posting the issue on a forum where people on laptos can speculate about what it could or could not be, why not simply take it to a garage and let them go out for a test drive in the car to try determin what the issue is. it could be something simple or somthing dangerous, if its the latter then far better to let the pros look at it rather than having ago yourself just to save a few quid

Because we're car enthusiasts who work on our own cars, and in a fair few cases, have been working on these vehicle for a lot of years, so we quite often have more model-specific knowledge than a lot of garages, who generally want £30 just to look at something.

pros?? really? aha

Wow, this is weird, I have the same noise aswell! I've had it for about a year, it became noticeable when I changed part of my exhaust. It just does it on idle though, as soon as the revs pick up, it goes away. It's kind of squeaky, and reverberates around the whole cabin. I obviously firstly thought it was my exhaust but I've felt all the way round it when running and the exhaust isn't touching the chassis at all.

After walking around the car listening for it, I've found that when I touch the boot, it goes away, implying that it is my boot vibrating. I have no idea why though, I have my rear wiper and motor in place, but have taken off the rear cover. I wonder if it could be that..

maybe but your still only on the other end of a laptop and cannot see nor hear the fault at hand, plus 9/10 people replying to things like this are just have a go heros and not mechanicly minded or skilled. if it costs him £30 to get the fault sorted then it will be £30 well spent as it will be sorted. i also work on my own car and have years of experiance working on them but theres no point in randomly guessing what could be wrong with someones car, for all we know he could have a knackered shock bush thats ready for letting go and could cause a serious accident, are you telling me thats worth not going to a garage for and spending a little bit of cash

Or they could charge him £30 to tell him he's got a faulty sock bush and it'll be £300 to fix

Surely by your reasoning the answer to every technical question on here's "because you don't know what you're doing - take it to a garage"?

sadly yes that is the answer, if you dont know what your doing then you should take it to someone who knows how to! is that not just common sense? and youve hit the nail on the head in saying they could charge him £30 and then tell him its going to cost £300 to sort it, at least he will know what the fault is and will get it sorted, if the money is the issue then people shouldnt have cars, cars cost money to run and maintain, if you cant afford it then you shoulnd have one.

this isnt me being arsey it just as i said befor COMMON SENSE

Have a go heroes? Think you'll find quite a lot of people I here are mechanics so your thinking is flawed.

Also he asked people for ideas... Everyone knows how to take a car to a garage to get it checked out so obviously that's not what the OP wanted to do, so why bitch at the 'have a go heroes' when your just chatting shit yourself!

Why comment about going to a garage... That isn't helping someone at all, that's common sense your just a keyboard warrior!

Apologies to OP for ranting on your thread. Also found the rattle on mine, where the motor had been removed it was bolted across the body so I made a small piece of metal and put it across and lined it up with the bolt holes and it sea to have gone

Edit: also a garage would charge £30 to look if it needs parts he'd get over charged.

And thinking of it, have a go heroes... Your guessing a something dangerous, maybe a shocker... Have a go hero yourself

i wasnt guessing at a shocker it was an example if you read correctly, imcertainly no keyboard warrior, getting on a forum is a task for me, why would it matter if he got overcharged for parts, if he cant get them himself then he will have to pay whatever somone wants for them. I'm also not having a bitch at have a go heros simly makeing the point that most of the input he will recieve on here will be from have a go heros and more than likely be of no use, i turn again to my main point of everyone here is on the other end of some device and cannot see nor hear the problem at hand so any suggestions given are total guess's, in which case the sensible thing to do is take it to a garage to be sorted

Again my point being that he has asked on the forum for ideas meaning he doesn't want to take it to a garage as of yet, so your comments of taking it to a garage are more pointless than anyone else's... He asking for ideas so say someone has had the same problem and fixed it for a matter of a few quid (such as myself) then that's what he wants to try first or he would of took it to a garage in the first place and this thread would not exist.

It's your opinion to take it to a garage and yes I see your point but clearly that's not what the OP wants to do end of.

Its not something silly like your number plate is it? 9/10 its something like that.

Nah not number plate. Or the boot as someone else offered as an idea, and one of the main ideas about moddig a car is actually doing things to it yourself, is nowhere near as fun nor do you get a good feeeling out of takin it to a garage to get something done as oppose to doing things yourself, i'm purely asking for ideas incase anyone else has had a similar issue that could just be something i haven't though of. I'm pretty sure most of the people on here that generally do things to their cars get a much better happiness by doing it themselves and saving a few bob, rather than spendin out for someone to say also this and this need doing and this will cost £x amount. If people see my point. For me modding and repairing stuff is not about the end result but the good feeling i get for doing it myself :)

Have you got someone in the boot?

i do completely see your point but again, how can someone say theyve had the same issue or thinks theyve had the same issue when they dont know 100% what the issue is, my main comment was to help you as it would be the best course of action for you issue because no one can give you a 100%correct answer as they cant see or hear the issue at hand. yes i know what you mean about the feeling of doing something yourself, theres nothing better but when it comes to certain issues that can hinder the saftey of yourself and other road users then i just strongly feel that in thoes cases you should seek expert help, i.e going to a garage or like, i used the shocker as an example of such an issue to hioghlight my point, i wasnt trying to get on at people simply make a point

People at garages that you speak of are humans just like everyone else here, What makes you think that an overall and some grease makes you knowledgeable to know the problem? Experience? there are many people here who have done more work on polos than any garage (Common sense since it's a polo club really)

The internet is the BEST source of information and a damn good way for you to know about your own car better than anyone else. So really asking for advice from a dedicated group about a specific car that consist of so many members on the internet is the wisest thing anyone could do.

And doing your research on the internet before you go foolishly spend money is just common sense :x further more if you don't ask (The dedicated group) you will never know.

:-)

eurorob, I'm fairly certain that RiderGazza69; and the rest, have taken your views into consideration.

So how about a video of this suspected noise?

The rest can then therefore, hear, see and even compare their noises.

youve checked the number plate, but what about the numberplate lights?

one of mine rattled about as the clips had broken.

yes a video would make sense so then people can see and hear the noise, at least then people will have something to go off rather than makeing guesses

yes people in garages are humans but if it was taken to one then at least a human would be looking at and listening to the problem, i understand people on here are knowlegeable about polos but there not sykick, how than they determin a fault without looking at or listening to it!

why are people not reading the posts correctly, the main issue at point is that its an issue you would have to experiance in the flesh to determin the fault at hand, none of you have gone to look and listen at this guys car so all comments about what it could be are just guesses at best.
