Model: Saab 900 Coupe Carb

Year: 1985

Mileage: 159,000

Tax: none

MOT: none

I recently purchased this car from an eldery gentlemen. He had purchased the car in the 90s and ran it for a number of years. Sadly, in 2000 he contracted cancer and therefore parked the car in his garage whilst he battled the illness. It has sat there since until I purchased it. I bought it, fitted a battery, put some fresh petrol in and she fired straight up. Because it had been stood for so long the exhaust had gained a few holes so that was swiftly changed. The front section is the only existing part as that only had a tiny hole which was patched up properly. On the first start up the drive belts disintergrated and so they had to be replaced. I noticed that the rear brake pipes would fail an MOT so swapped them over for some new copper ones. Because the rest of the pipes are hidden from the elements; they are rust free. I serviced the car and fitted a new choke cable. I did book the car in for an MOT but noticed when driving off that the handbrake mechanism was stuck on slightly (only just enough for me to notice). She has now been parked up and I have 3 more cars to sort before I'll get round to this one. To my knowledge only the brakes will need any attention before going through an MOT.

It has a lot of old MOTs and receipts dating back to when the car was only a few months old.

Good Points:

  • Superb engine, starts on first compression and runs perfectly.
  • Gearbox is tight and the clutch is nice and low
  • Suspension feels good (albeit a bit wallowy as it should be)
  • Bodywork is very good, minimal rust spots (the type that can be polished out mainly) and scratches
  • New rear brake pipes
  • New mid-section and rear-section of exhaust
  • New clutch cable, re routed and not perfect but functions fine.
  • New drive belts
  • Fresh service including cap, rotor arm and leads
  • Tow bar fitted with twin electrics
  • Very Solid underneath with no signs of any corrosion
  • Good tyres all round
  • Rear window Louvre - sadly it was this that made me want it so much!

Bad Points:

  • Brakes need some attention, the handbrake seems to be sticking on slightly and they could do with a good bleed. Calipers might need freeing off on the front and the pads could do with replacing.
  • Rooflining is sagging
  • Interior is dirty
