6n2 Camber Shims

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I'm not too good at instruction manuals... lets get that out the way first of all ;)

So the camber shims (eibach) came for my 6n2 today. Now, I haven't the first clue about fitting the bastards, so I have a few questions

I dont know what kind of camber i want to go for, my rears are scrubbing at the moment so ideally I want to irradicate this problem by bringing the rears in at the top.

I also want to sort the toe out as i believe this is a problem that occurs with all cars lowered without indipendent suspension... is there a way to sort the toe out with camber shims?

Also will lowering/raising the car with the camber shims in have an affect on the camber? cus I cant be buying new shims every time I want to adjust ride height (all be it by millimetres).

So first of all, could anybody possibly show me some pics of a 6n or n2 with camber to give me an idea of how much negative camber I want? (the shims go to -1.5)

and could anybody answer any of the above questions for me, it would be very helpful!

Thanks in advance

anyone???

Yo.

I fitted some camber shims on a 6n to the maximum setting (-1.5) and put them vertically so to speak.

This gave over 3 degrees of negative camber PER SIDE when lowered. However it also gave 45 minutes of resr toe (3/4 of a degree) (toe in)

This is partly due to the fact that you need to index them round when fitting them.

The instructions show which tabs to cut to suit the bolt holes for standard ride height, as the beam twists up with lowering this position will add toe in as the "fat part" or the shims isn't directly at the bottom, and ends up maybe at say 8 o'clock.

Now correcting both is a bit of an awkward one, as ideally you need to know how much your toe needs correcting so you can then set the shims correctly.

You need to know what position the bolts on the beam are in AT YOUR RIDE HEIGHT not the diagrams on the sheet.

For maximum camber ensure the fattest part of the shim is at 6 o'clock when your beam is at ride height, not dangling on the floor on your drive.

You can assess this by having the drum etc off, car on axle stand then jack the beam on one side (pushes wheel into arch) until the body just lifts off the jack, this should be about your ride height and will give a good indication.

As for a definitive answer to correct your toe, I don't know.

But I'd imagine indexing them like I said unlike I did, you won't end up with so much toe in.

My car setup resr symmetrically at the rear, just too much toe in.

Ideally you need to measure, use the chart to tell you what you need then fit the shims, which is awkward when gaining camber and reducing toe

Best bet is to get the car 4 wheel aligned so you know your figures then index the shims to give you exactly what's needed !

I spooke to my guy down at the local tracking station (imperial tyres, very good!!!) who said, using camber shims for correcting toe and producing camber means I will only be able to use half the potential of the shim (-0.75) as it contradicts itself.

I'm not sure what I want to do, as the car has quite alot of toe at the moment. Do you think 0.75 is enough camber? need to clear the arches (need about .5-1cm) at the top!!!

if it is them I would do both as the reason i needed camber in the first place was to clear arches and lower more (CBA with rolling at this present time)

if you cant do the job properly dont do the job atall. ;)

shhh...

I will get the arches rolled at some point. I just DONT LIKE TOE!!!! and certainly dont want more

use the shims to correct your toe and arch work to sort the lows.

how bad is it? 1 washer on the back bolt and 2 on the front is how I've heard of it before when stupid low....

So you tell me to do the job properly then bring washers up? wish are alot less safe than shims, and might i add! ILLEGAL (to the extent that if the coppers found them!)

I didnt say do it did i ;) just saying its what i heard. If you really want a reply use drop plates get wheels that fit and do it properly. ;)
