Epic Rattling

Featured Replies

My cars had a terrible rattle for a while now, I assumed it was the dash that was causing the noise which can only be described as a woodpecker on wood at both bottom corners of the windscreen. I took the dash out and the noise hasnt changed a beat. New top mounts struts wheel bearings and bushes didnt change the noise either. I now use headphones in the car as its annoying as fk! My next step is to check all things attached to the bulkhead to see if any of these items are loose. Has anyone had any similar issues?

Cheers

MIght be a shot. but mine was the hinge for the bonnet . it had bend and was rattling against the wing.. Take the hingt off and try bend it back and put some insulation tape around the hinge before you put it back on to obsorbe the sound. I had the exact same sound and that cured it :)

Brake pads?

What size is a normal polo battery as the one I have is a bit larger than the last one and it may be rubbing against the bonnet hinge! Good shout Jamie!

I've change the battery to one which is smaller and its still making the noise, weird how duct tape solved the issue but now its gone back to the noise. How do you go about taking the hinge off bulk head side. Do you slip the holding pin off and the bolt stays on the bulkhead?

Yeah, bit of a swine but should just pop off ..

Edit . Just thought .. The reason for the rattle is due to the the pin wearing .. Rap tape around the hinge and the pin and it should stop it .

hope this helps mate. I know how annoying the rattle is lol .

All my bolts on the bonnet hinge are tight, the problem is that its had a new tray welded in previously (which has started to rust through already) the rear shelf doesnt actually provide a tight enough fit to clamp the battery down, plus the threaded bar at the front is so short that a clamp can't actually get on it (I'm just using a nut at the minute) . If i can get all that solved then it might be the bonnet hinge being bent again grrr

Ill try that jobbo with the hinge mate fingers crossed!

Right today I tried to take the driver side bonnet hinge off and it was a nightmare. I could only spin the square U shaped clip which looks like it holds the hinge on. Has anyone taken this of before and know a good way to do it?

I also put some sticky support pads on the back of the battery so its stopped that side rattling from rattling now its just the bonnet hinge left!
