How Does Car Insurance Work?

Featured Replies

Need some info on car insurance. How does it work if i already have a policy as i do on the polo, however i want to change cars.

What is the best way to go about this?

Do i inform my insurance company and they charge the difference? or do i start a completely new policy? what happens to the old policy and what happens to current no claims bonus from the current policy?

Surely some of you have done this before

This question belongs in the paperwork section...

But as I've gone through the effort of opening up a reply I might as well answer your question

You phone up your insurance and explain that you are looking at another car you would like a quote, most of the time if you then went on to take out the policy on the other car they will just switch it and add the difference on to your month payments (or one payment if you paid in advance. You will then just carry on with your policy until the end of the 12 months from when you started your original policy.

Some times however they will say that you would have to cancel your policy and start again. This can happen if its a different type of policy (if your original policy is for a standard car and the new car is modded for example).

Just make sure you get a quote before going out and buying the new car tho, nothing worse than going through all the ball aches of selling a car and buying a new one only to find you can't afford to insure it or you would have to start a new policy

It's a hard life ent it, Guy!

How does car insurance work? Well, you pay them hundreds and hundreds of pounds, and you never see or hear from them again.

And that's when it all goes well.

And the law not only allow it, but actually insist on it.

Basically it's arse rape but it's actual enforced by the law! Weird eh

Thank you for the reply, i thought i would ask before actually speaking to them, rather that than being fooled into paying silly money and being misquoted and getting stuck with that price.

I've never actually notice the paper work section of the forum...

Feel free to move it :- )
