i used a large bolt and some washers etc to wind them out

or you can drill /cut at the rubber until it will knock out ...are you fitting polys? if not just put a new arm for what they cost

I just had to replace mine. As long as u got a good decent strong socket set and some ring spanners and a good heavy mallet and hammer its a relatively easy job requiring brute force to get new one back on. Can be done without taking off the anti roll bar aswell. I took bottom part of control arm apart bolts off first then the top then when u push down on the control arm it springs out easily. Puting new ones on I put bottom balljoint side on 1st then with a thin bolt i got the old man to push the control arm up and the strut forwards. When its almost lined up i used a bottle jack to push it the wee mm it needed to go and the thin bolt slipped into it which was a guide to hold it. Then more brute force pushing and shoving and drop the main bolt thru it and stick you are nut onto it n tighten up. It sais in manual that tighten it up properly once u put tyre back on and weight of car will slide balljoint in snugly but i never do that. I find they slide into the balljoint uneven and at an angle. Own preference i got my own way of doing it and it works and its fitted so hey ho. Garages can really rip people off with suspension and steering stuff! at the same time they gotta get paid for their labour.

Could not get my bushes in even with use of my local garage's 10 tonne press, so it might depend on the bushes.

Ending up wearing some rubber away using a bolt in a drill and the pavement outside!

Press makes in a bit awkward.

Better to use through press tools and a draw bolt

My advice above was relating to replacing the whole arm. tbh its very rare nowadays for people to bother changing bushes rather than replace the whole part unless fitting stronger harder bushes for a specific reason. For every day driving even the good hard strong ones struggle with the state of our roads today. I wouldnt bother messing bout with bushes and usually replace the whole part. Just my own preference.

I bought new arms for my mk3 and took the new bushes straight out anyway, replaces your ball joint then too.

For the cost of the arm I'd just replace, however as you have bushes.

Bar and some washers or press cups. And lube it and should "pop" in as you tighten the nuts on the piece of bar compressing the washers nearer together

a little button called search would have helped here:
