I recently disconnected the battery whilst doing some work, and now the radio is asking for a 4 digit code!

I don't know what it is, what should I do?

If you have the original owners hand book (inside the black plastic folder) it MAY have been written in there.

If not, try '0000'.

You could also try the original supplier (VW Dealer) who MIGHT have a record, failing that, they will be able to unlock it for you (for a fee of course!).

It might pay to do nothing for a little while, and see if anyone on here will own up to knowing how to access it for you!!!!

Thanks, my radio is now on safe mode after getting the code wrong twice, how do I get it off?

On my 9n3 you need to leave it turned on for a hour to reset the radio if you have put the code in wrong. not sure if yours will be the same.

Have you tried turning the engine on turning it off, turning it on the turning the radio on that seems to unlock mine whenever i disconnect it.

Thanks, yes I have the lock deactivated now, the key had to be in the ignition for an hour for it to work. I still need to take it to a decoder later as I don't have the code

my radio is matched to the ecu so once they pair up the radio unlocks maybe yours is the same i got it to to work doing this !turn radio off and ignition off remove key 2 turn ignition and start engine 3 turn off remove key 4 put key back in turn on to acc then turn the radio on. works for me every time hth

Is this on a 6n2?

If so turn ignition on, radio should say safe mode, switch radio of. Then turn ignition on and off a few times then start the car. Turn radio on it should read learn then turn on.

This has worked many times for me in later cars, but these all had the standard radio from the factory - as a obe they are paired with the central convenience/ ecu and will unlock itself.

If its an aftermarket stereo then you will have to contact the manufacturer with proof of ownership and they will give you the code.
