you'll need to run the biggest MC possible, and it will be over biased to the rear even with the inline type bias valve (these valves only allow you to dial more pressure to the rear, not take it away

Was running 16's, want to get it a tad quicker might do some head work and cam it over the off season

hmm that does sound a little off, aee isnt it?? nicks ran a 14.9! have you set the webers up?

  • Author

It's a AEA yeah had the webers set up by company called sanspeed, it's a completely stock engine apart from the webers, has that nicks done any other work? I was hoping for 15's myself

ah that would expain it then! hes got slightly raised compression and a 272 camshaft, for a standard camshaft thats not a bad time!

U had me worried there lol, no the can shaft is being done at the end of the season ready for next year, and from what i understand the AEA is slightly higher compression that an aee from what I've been told

Well done fella!

looks sick man, awesome that you did so well at jam :)

Not sure iv seen this before, only had a very quick flick, happy for you for bugjam.

What gearbox are you running? Was you given any power figures/graphs when you had the carbs setup?

My compression is only around 10.5:1 IIRC, have ran a 14.9 on a dizzy, and a 14.9 with mappable ignition but an epic headwind, cars generally better with the mappable stuff would like to see what it could run, I think a 14.6 would be achievable with mine, so should be for you too :)

Nice one man you done well at bugjam really enjoyed watching you race mate good luck

Not sure on gear box will have to check which one it actually is, but think I remember being told its one from a seat Ibiza if I remember rightly, yeah I've got a print out can't find it at the more but guy told me it was 95bhp, as an old school place didn't give me a toque figure :-(

Best I could get was 16.4 hardly any wind and very hot we weren't getting a lot of time between rounds for cool down time :-(

Apart from raising compression what else u done to urs? I wanna get more out of mine but unsure what's best route any suggestions?

"full" spec of mine would be:

AEE engine

0.8mm skimmed off head, CR is about 10.5-10.8:1 now I believe

Newman 272/272 cam

Rebuilt head, new lifters/springs etc

3 angle valve seats

Ports smoothed/blended to manifolds

Crank/pistons/rods balanced

Lightened and balanced mk3 flywheel

37mm bike carbs

Megajolt mappable ignition

4-2-1 stainless cheap shit manifold + heat wrapped

2" I think twin silenced stainless exhaust

95hp is that at the wheels or flywheel?

Does seem a bit slow IMO, but gearbox & the launch makes a massive difference in these.

Like I say, ran. 14.9 on a dizzy, and a 14.9 on megajolt with an epic head wind

Video of around a 15.0

I ran a 16.1 with this engine in a worse state of tune with a 268 cam in a 6n too

So was you are 14.9 with the setup u state above? As mine is a completely stock engine apart from the webers.

I'm looking at camshafts at the mo and doing a bit of port matching but that won't be till the end of the season

As for wheels or fly not sure I wasn't told was done with a couple of other mates

14.9 was ran above setup yeah. But running a mechanical advance dizzy off a mk2, the car is a lot more lively with the mappable ignition and delivers better torque throughout the range.

  • Author

Well that explains the difference as mine is completely stock engine apart from the carbs,

Cam and head work coming over the winter months whilst we're not racing

Youre welcome to take mine for a drive if I'm ever up there the same time as you.

Cheers, be interesting to know the difference once the extra works done, u go down Shakespeare much? Down there for round 6 over the August bank holiday weekend I'm going to try hunt down another AEA head so I start doing bits while off the car, port and polished etc, u recommended raising compression as well then?

And what make cam shaft u go for?

I see a lot of people seem to go for Newman, couple have been suggesting cat camshafts and schrick cams

Edited by Big_age2807

Never been but Id like to go down, only 25 mins from mine. August bank holiday what dates that?

I'm running a newman 272, its just a copy of the Schrick I think, or was that the 268 hmm, basically the same just not finished as nicely and half the price

24th to 26th aug it's just a race weekend no rwyb, racers are starting to prefer this site over pod as pod is getting to commercial they say lol,

Oh ok I've been hearing Newman ain't making the 272 any more :-(
