It's no worse than those stupid episodes of Top Gear where they buy old cars and beat them up for no reason. Actually, specifically, this is a less interesting version of what Top Gear did to the Toyota Hilux, isn't it?

I can see why they do it, and yeah fine so that car could've just ended up being scrapped anyway, but to me it's just a reminder that these aren't shows for car enthusiasts. I'd far sooner have seen them do something like, I dunno, drive it to Australia and NOT fuck about with it in any way to see how well everything lasted over a long distance.

Whacking it with a baseball bat, drowning it in a pond and flattening it with a monster truck doesn't really throw up any surprises, does it.

The water thing is stupid, it has as a good chance as any car.
