place teabag in cup

pour in hot water

stir

squeeze teabag so it doesn't drip everywhere

discard teabag

add milk

stir

add sugar

stir

enjoy :-)

Boil water in kettle

Place loose tea in tea-pot

Pour boiled water into tea-pot

Allow to sit for a few minutes

Strain tea into cup

Add milk

Tell everyone that has sugar in their tea that they are weird

Enjoy tea.

Naah, I've had loose tea recently and it was bloody horrid!

It was ceffetierre style (that's probably spelt completely wrong) so whe you poured it, it was auto-strained/filtered

You're both victims of an improper education.

I'm all for this business of using one bag per cup. It's tidy.

But if you squeeze out the bag before putting the milk in then you're going to burn your hands now then, aren't you. The tea leaves are spent at this point, so there's no harm sealing them in milk at this late stage. So..

Place bag (and sugar if preferred) into cup.

Pour in hot water.

Give it time to brew, a minute should do, no more than two.

Stir.

Add milk and stir until the colour is good.

Remove bag, giving just a little squeeze to remove excess liquid.

Stir again, and it's ready to drink immediately.

Never re-heat.

No, you won't burn your fingers, you use a spoon!

It's mainly people who put the milk in first who confuse me...

Don't be stupid! If you put the milk in before the water you coatthe leaves in fat and block the flavour.

And getting the bag out with a spoon.. what, two spoons? The squeeze is the best bit!

I swar, kids of today haven't got a clue how to make a proper british brew.

Doesn't milk kill the brewing process so you're left with a crap cuppa? I don't drink tea, purely an espresso/flat white drinker so I can relate to the anal-retentiveness of this thread!

Wastage of hot water there. Better to boil the kettle with the teapot above it, so the steam warms the teapot, then you don't need to pour hot water down the sink.

Tea bags also prevent waste, such regulation with portions also makes for more consistent brews (much as fresh tea is preferable).

back in the 1800's when china cups and tea were new fangled things to Britain you could tell someones wealth from how they made their cuppa, milk in first people couldn't afford decent china so they put the milk in first to reduce the risk of the cup cracking with the temperature change (Poor folk). whereas folk who did it the right way with milk last are the folk who could afford decent tea cups yo (Wealthy folk).

Exactly how it should be done, lucky here as the water is perfect so we dont get that weird taste/floating stuff.

Hate making tea when I'm on holiday as almost everywhere seems to have hard water and makes the tea taste funny, or the kettle is furry inside.
