In 6 weeks time a policy will be pushed through to make all modified cars (past and present) illegal, this means things as simple as changing wheels will make the car fail the mot.

It's bollocks, the majority of commercial vehicles are modified, some domestic, for a start. Plus the countryside lot wouldn't allow it as it'd cause problems with their 4x4s.

A lack of flexibility isn't good for the environment, adapting vehicles is big business, proposals are presented all the time but it doesn't mean they get passed as law.

ACE love their scaremongering

They were on about the historic vehicle thing on retro rides saying that it would mean any thing that was of a certain age and modified would be banned from the roads. When I questioned them about this asking if it would not be just a case of anything old and modified would just be classed as a normal car and lose its right to free road tax he just went off on one about everyone burying their heads in the sand. See the thing is he doesn't know the details about what would actually happen but that doesn't stop him telling everyone the world is ending. If he dealt in facts rather than doom theories he might actually be able to get people to pay attention to him

However a lot of these rumours are more to do with the E.U. trying to bring all European countries in line with each other, to be honest i think people should be a little concerned with what is happening.

The way i see it is for example in the future if you wanted to fit larger alloys to your Polo , they would have to be type approved for your car similar to the German T.U.V scheme , however if you wished to fit something like Porsche wheels then you wouldnt be able too .

You should also bear in mind some European countries already have tough anti modification laws in place , i dont think it will be that drastic here though .

Yes and no , you would be able to fit any replacement or modified parts as long as they are approved for your vehicle , what the legislation is referring to is for example if you fit a non approved part or make modifications such as a different engine then your vehicle will not pass a M.O.T for example and then be subject to a B.I.V.A test or similar .
