so i paid my insurance company in full last month. but before i did, i was checking quotes on comparison sites. and it seems if you ever do a quote on-line now, the current insurance company has access to that info. e.g. I'm with admiral. i did a quote for sainsbury insurance (example) and i entered exactly the same info as on my current insurance policy. then i thought, lets see how much it will cost if i have coilovers, and a induction kit. well well well. it seems that just wanting to find out how much it would cost can really cost you more. because admiral have added that i now have an induction kit, just because i did a quote with that. and guess what, they will take 30 quid from me. i just cannt believe this. really it is low. they could of rung me. now i have to fucking ring them on their 0845 number and tell them, and prob not get my money back. who can i complain to about this.

its always a good idea to use an alias for quotes especially online.

The comparison site is the first direction of action to take under the data protection act, they shouldn't give out details or even do that to start with. Can't believe this. Hope you get it sorted!!

You can only ring them, in a sense it's fraud in their eyes as your getting a quote with mods from another place then buying from them with no mods... The way they see it is probably that your blagging them to get money off.

Depends who, if you read the endless pages of small prit on some companies they say that by agreeing you are allowing them to share your details with other companies

^^ but he could blag it to say you were testing the water to see what it does to the price adding these kind of mods, If you mention anything tbh you may just get a inspector come and have a look at your car for modifications.

Anything to take your money. I have also had a friend ring up his insurance company to query lowering his car, didn't take it out as he hadn't lowered it, they wanted £40. When his next renewal came trough it was more expensive and his certificate said it was lowered  cheeky bastards

I'm not trying to defruad anyone. I've been with admiral 3 years now got 3 no claims with them. every year i renew. i dont see how its a problem to go on other site. were all tyring to get the best possible deal arnt we.i mean. i have 2 name drivers. i also did quotes to see how much it is without them etc. but they didnt add that. just the indcution. they didnt take my mum off even though it would of been 100 quid cheaper. lol, no. they just try everything

Never noticed when you phone up and they clearly tell you how all the info is exchanged on various databases etc

yeah but to actually assume i have modfs just cause i was checking. at the very least they should phone you.

so rang them up. they said i will have to go to a garage for an inspection and a written note stating theres no mods. i said ok so you will refund me for my time anfd the garage costs. the lady spoke to her manager and told me just to send an e-mail saying i dont have any mods. what a joke.

wankers

Same thing happened to me, I took out a policy with admiral.

Then one evening I was looking at the prices on potential modifications.

Next thing I noticed was that my bank account was much lower than I thought.

Few days later, I got a letter from admiral explaining that because of non disclosure, I had been charged accordingly.

Then they wanted me to get a garage to write a letter, to prove I wasn't lying.

But I complained, and they asked me to send in a hand written letter.

I got the money back, think it was about 60 quid.

What a nuisance!

good on you. i really hate them. I've wrote them a letter of complaint and as well as wanting my 30 quid back I've ask for 65p for making a 9 minute phone to call them which was there faulot. also gonna complain to the fsa. maybe people will think this is norml but i dont.

can't believe they can get away with that shit

Had something similar-ish

did the ussual online qoutes using a brand comparison site.one qoute was tasty so i gave them a bell

went through my details and i must have given a wrong detail as there qoute doubled, laughing over i told them to do one ect..

went back online hour or so later for the best qoute again and they all suddenly had doubled lol

left it until renewel time and insured with my exsisting insurance no problems.

i never knew what info was wrong that time as I'm legit, but have had no problem with qoutes since, just amazing how they spread the word

i know admiral own confused.com (i think its confused) so yeah be carefulk

i just got 10 pound compensation today from admiral for this distressing period. woohoo

Right, well i won't be going with Admiral when my renewal is up then.

Funny how these big-brother measures don't go the other way, eh? 'Oh, he's telling them he's only got steels now, he's insured with alloys? Let's chop a bit off his next payment'

Similar thing happened to me. I had insured my 9n3 withy the cheapest insurer I could find, and was happy with it then about 3-4 months later the car decided it didn't want to go on living anymore and burst into flames at some traffic lights. Okay no problem in fully covered, or so I thought. I rang up the insurers and gave them my info and they told me that my address was wrong and my car isnt insured. It turns out that my brother in law was looking fe quotes online and tried me as the first driver of his car (not a problem as I use it a lot) and put his address, now my policy which I paid in full has changed to his adores and his car meaning I as not insured for over Two months and I am still arguing with them and it is still not settled and it happened in January!

So moral is be wry careful when using comparison sites and as above try to use an alias as this will not change the quote but your address etc will.
