It's noticeably colder today, naturally my car will run leaner when it's colder.

Was aiming for gaining 1 part air when I rejetted, going from around 12.3:1 AFR under full throttle to around 13.3:1

Being colder today it did exactly that, a whole 1 AFR leaner so to speak just being colder, runs crisper as expected. Had a bit of fun this morning, handles plenty well enough for what I want + it's only a road car so doesn't need to be pushed to limits on public highways IMO.

Also.....

AD999E13-3843-4B92-85FA-C0128DA8F732-271

Never seen over 28mpg in the 6n, not entirely convinced on the last fill, although I did do a bit more motorway miles.

Pretty poor in terms of reality and modern cars but it's running rich and improving all the time :)

May need to look at cold start, think my choke is an idle increase type not a fuel enrichment, so when it's colder it may struggle a bit!

Taking ages to warm up on cold mornings too, maybe applying some tape to oil cooler + rad soon haha

Nick

Just read all of this, great work.

lmao at my voice.

So much fun.

Got an exhaust joiner today, will have a bash at attaching that the weekend, gonna try convince the Mrs to wrapping my manifold for me too.

Just bought a megajolt setup off my mate too, not sure how to do the crank angle, use dizzy or crank sensor or a 72-2 trigger and mod a dizzy to suit that. No idea really lolz.

Like the sound of that, should be a lot to gain from a propper ignition set-up.

Been shopping.

Exhaust joiner:

Really fucking exciting this

Right didn't wrap manifold this weekend, hopefully next.

Just fitted exhaust, need to trim tail pipe a bit and polish it up, will do for now. Isn't really loud I don't think, can't really hear it over induction noise anyway, performance wise, unsure, maybe lost a bit bottom end IMO.

Sits a bit close to tank..

Will do for now.

Hopefully flywheel swap next weekend, unsure on swapping cam. May advanced the 268 a bit!

Nothing exciting today.

Took new clutch cover to be balanced with the flywheel.

Got some flywheel bolts/oil/filter..OEM

Should hopefully swap fly + wrap manifold this coming weekend. Don't think I'll be swapping the cam at the minute but we will see.

Need to tuck the centre box up a bit, I'm glad it has a 10mm thick skid plate welded to it!

This was running sooooo well on the way home from work! Awesome over 7k, screaming carbs and exhaust, nonnomnom.

Also stripped cleaned, rebuilt & painted the mk3 slim starter item (item just for Eric) as this is a rare item I'll be getting another as a spare.

Forgot to take pics mind! Apart from this one

Have painted this late mk3 item gloss black.

Great build mate making me think about a 1.6 aee engine for the poloon hopefully you don't mind sme questions n the future :) looks great

Looking good Harris!

Yo.

Lightened mk3 fly isn't actually much lighter than my lightened 6n one.

Also already had a 200mm clutch lol fail.

Also cut 1" off tail pipe.

Top end is tappIng it's tits off with this cam, bare annoying!

Slim starter is flawless with decent batt + wiring!

That cam is fucking viscous

Need jetting tweaks again now, sounds totally different on this cam!

Can see your will on that "at work" pic

Good work dude, hows it sound different then?

Love this!

Well, just been out on a track....134mph GPS, which was scary as fuck and have gained lots of stone chips haha

Fuck me lol, bet that was shit scary.

Yeah right you've lost interest.

Want some attention mate? :-)

  • Author

Yeah I just dunno whether to mess with setup a bit and give it chance or just bin it off now and put the 268 back in?

Also, exhaust video...because everyone else does

http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae114/h...3D9ABACCBC7.mp4

Apart from the suspension, which needs some tweeks, this is good as gold for daily use, cruising on motorway etc

Actually had a bit of a productive day today.

Decided to play with cam timing, advanced it a bit to try and get some bottom end back, made a real difference, went a little bit more and made it absolute shit, went back to where it was after first adjustment, all good.

Rebalanced carbs,

Tried a different dizzy with vac advanced, feels better, but maybe a bit lean now.

Have cleaned engine bay for the first time in ages & been playing with damper settings, bit more positive today.

Maybe some slight jetting tweaks and a play with base timing but feels better :)

nice one big man,

Good to hear its running well,

Be giving you a run for your money on the 14th :-D

Not sure your Jetta will be able to race me mate.

heres some photos, gave the bay a quick clean :)

So this is how much I moved the cam timing and really did make a noticable difference..
