Looking for my old Coupe S

Featured Replies

Posting on these forums recently has brought back all sorts of memories for me. I'm looking to see if anyone on here owned my old old Grey '89 Coupe S. The reg was F700 YKA. It was a cracker of a car. I sadly miss it. :-( Looks like its not been on the road since 2008 according to Tax check on DVLA.

Trying to dig up some old photos, but can't find any. The last time it was seen by members on here was the second Polo Show.

I bought it from you in 2004ish, and ran around in it for several months whilst I got a gearbox sorted for my squareback. Did the headgasket on it when I first got it (it died on the way home from yours, lol!), and sold it to a neighbour in late 2004 when I got a new gearbox sorted for the Mk3. He welded up both sills for the MOT as they turned out to be extremely rotten, and he used it for another few months after that - he loved it too. Then sometime in early 2005 he swapped it for a V6 Audi with one of his VW-mad mates down south which I was gutted about as I'd asked for first refusal if he was selling it.

I remember seeing it on eBay a few months later, and the bidding got up to 4 figures. I don't think the sale went through though, as it was on eBay again with the same pics and seller not long after. Haven't seen or heard of it since.

Blimey - the HG went on the way back? Wow I feel bad now! It had been flawless for me for the time I had it! Don't suppose you have any pics of it? 4 figures on eBay? Crikey - I remember paying £350 for it!

Thanks for sharing!

It'd been stood for a while if memory serves though, so it's a risk you take!

It had a bent bonnet too, but I got a black one for it which the next owner was getting sprayed up. The sills turned out to be really bad, I knew there was some fibreglass repair on the top where you showed me - but underneath they were shot. Fortunately the guy I sold it to was a Mini fan, so was fairly familiar with a welder so it got repaired easily enough.

I'm away with work at the moment, but have some pics of it on my laptop at home. In fact, I've got some from when you owned it and parked it on the club stand next to my squareback at E38 one year. In the meantime, here's a few from my Photobucket...

Your advert photo I think?

One of the E38 pics I was talking about - fairly sure I have more on my home laptop:

Really appreciate this Andy, yeah, you're right, it had been stood for a while as I'd got my G40 back on the road, the missus was expecting and I wasn't allowed to keep more than 1 polo! (I had 3)

Ah yes - with my G40 in the background! I completely forgot that the bonnet catch went and the bonnet flew up one day and twatted the windscreen (hence the dent in the bonnet).

Good to see it was loved after I parted company with it. Can't believe I left that lovely suede mountney steering wheel in it! :?

I've still got that wheel somewhere!
