Hello.. I'm selling my car and as the tax runs out on the 31st (tomorrow) i thought id tax it..... i went down to post office with my documents like mot,v5,insurance certif's. He said he cant tax it because my insurance runs out on 31st(tomorrow) .. i was like whats your point its the 30th my insurance is still valid. and that was it basically. He just said no.

Is it worth me going down to other post office's as theres fuck*** hundreds round my area or can i def not retax it?

your insurance has to be valid for the day the tax start... them is the rules...

also if you could tax it you could be liable for a fine as you are now breaking the law if you keep a Taxed but Uninsured car!! :) so If the car doesn't have insurance you now have to SORN the car and if you wish reclaim any tax on it or face a £1000 fine!!! what a brilliant idea that was by the gov!!!

tax it for today n just lose out on a month. less hassle waiting for insurance cover note if/when u get it insured again within the next 2 weeks. and less hassle for u and buyer if you are gonna flog it. just dont drive it obviously without insurance as thats breaking the law. for it to be kept even parked on a public highway tho u need both insurance AND tax so u have 2 weeks li way AS LONG AS U KEEP IT OFF ROAD AND DONT DRIVE IT.

the Law has now changed. If a car is taxed it has to be insured even if you don't keep in on the road. Its a new law that no one has really kicked up any fuss about

Even though in my opinion its just stupid. It was implemented to try and stop people driving with out insurance. But if you are going to drive without insurance then you won't mind driving without TAX either.

It just hurts the people who keep a 2nd car and use it on short term insurance or who are selling a car and have transferred the insurance over to the new car...

Yep this new law is shit and it's screwing up a lot of people with driveable show cars and weekend cars as they now have to keep them insured and taxed constantly as in they can't leave it taxed and just insure the cars for weekends for shows etc they have to be basically both or neither

And it's mega shit for selling and buying cars too

Have you tried taxing it online, don't think it bothers checking the dates, just if it's valid at the time.
