Sorry I'm on my phone so I can't really search atm, thanks :)

Go to a different place then as the place you went sound like absolute benders

Places I've been have no issue at all with the only disclaimer being , at your own risk yeah we'll do it.

165 on 8j no questions and I've use several garages

So you can get points? At your own risk stretch, I don't fancy getting 3 points per tyre

If a tire is sitting on a rim and not leaking air then it is legal

Bollocks - if it is outside the manufacturer's recommendations it's not fit for purpose or is unsafe will be the line the law takes. I'd like to see you argue the above in court.

No, tyre places always think your tyres will come off the rim..

Just man up if you want to run stretch do it if not don't.

One other point:

Given that you can get 3 points per illegal tyre he got off lightly. (Although he theoretically could have had only one stretched tyre and 3 normal wheels and tyres, but that's just asking to be stopped by the law isn't it?)

ran with 165 70 r13's on a 8.5 inch rim and was stopped plenty of times and never was mensioned that the tyres where "too stretched" or illegal, only thing they didnt like was that my wheel stuck out of the arch a wee bit!

i was running 4 195/40 tyres on 9j rims got pulled by the police and i got done for having bald tyres they didn't even mention the stretch and the pictures were shown in court i got 3 points and £800 fine for having bald tyres the stretch wasn't even mentioned

The stretch wasn't a little bit either lol

Why would they bother going into a technical discussion on tyre stretch when they clearly have a case for the lack of tread on the tyres? The coppers are going to keep it simple: Plod 1 says it's bald, Plod 2 says it's bald - end of prosecution case.
