MK2 Front Panel

Featured Replies

I'm after a whole front panel with no damage. Colour is not important as I will be respraying it to match my car. I'm looking to do a removable front panel, but want a spare if it all goes wrong. Also, it may get modified for IC cooling at a later date and I want an uncut piece in case I choose to go back to standard at some point.

If anyone has a repair panel, that would be awesome. Equally I can come and cut the required panel from someone breaking a car. Closer to Oxfordshire the better, but try me as I'm willing to travel for the right part.

Thanks

vw heritage do them, repo about £30, genuine about £60. Tell them you were at e38 and you get free delivery and 10% off this week.

No shit? Thats dirt! For that price I'd have a genuine one. Though I wonder how different the repro ones are?

Any idea what the promo code was Kerrly?

It was a verbal thing, just ring up and say you were there. I had a genuine one myself so can't comment on repro quality.

Ah right, I'll ring up in the week and get it ordered. Have you made a bolt on yourself?

Just the valance I'm bolting on, i left the slam panel in place. It will probably be one of the last jobs to do so don't expect it in my thread anytime soon lol

How do you remove the valance? Grind the welds off? Also, are you bolting the valance back on? Do you mind if I ask how?

I removed it uses a big hammer, strong screw driver and a saw at the beginning. I'm going to use two self tapping screws with socket ends under each headlight, one in the middle of the slam panel, the two screws in the front wings and then loads of stupid strong clear sealant around the ends of the chassis legs and below the valance where it attaches at the bottom. Its not a heavy panel or particulaly major strengh area for the body. Mk2 Golf front ends are just bolts so its fine. With the thing off it can only aid me fitting the engine.

think I may look at getting some plates welded over the ends of the chassis legs and tapping/welding nuts there to bolt the valance to. Providing its hidden that is. Will need to get the old one off and new one in place before I can make a final decision

Can chop you one out of the loon we're breaking if you want? Surface rust, but otherwise straight.

I thought the panels were staying on?
