Cheapest Quote. £3800.

Featured Replies

My cheapest quote so far, as a new 21 year old driver in Leeds, 3800.

However, if I put my mum as the first driver, I've seen it as low a 2000.

(mum on a provisional license with 0 NCB!)

I know that different people speculate fraud etc, but how is it, I'd be insured as the second driver? :S

As long as I'm insured I see no fraud.

If you use the car more than your mother, thats when it become iffy.

Policy Holder = Main Driver

A Named Driver = Secondary User

I Use my Scooter for work, so i would only be using the car for weekends anyways, maybe to take the girlfriend out!

Plus, it might give my mum some encouragement to start driving!

End of the day the insurace company see it as you are a higher risk than your mother (9/10 times is right)

so the more time your at the wheel the more likely they will have to pay out compared to if your mother was the main driver

And they really are cracking down on it at the moment, friend of mine got his arse handed to him with being uninsurable for 3 years because its blatent fraud

How long you been insured on the scooter mate? Some companies will take your bike Ncb, not sure if it requires a full licence though so you would have to check it out. I had Ncb from my motorcycle which a company accepted, however I was being quoted less by a different company that didn't accept bike no claims. Bit silly I know.

Had the scooter around 18 months mate, got a years NCB on it, but haven't found an insurer that will accept it.

I think it was Co-op that accepted it? Not too sure. I'm a similar age to yourself, but as I said even with the discount I got it much cheaper via Tesco.

I gave them a friends! Hahaha.

who owns your car. regarding the 'fronting' issue. i cant see how they can prove who drives most so long as the person who owns the car is the mainpolicy holder. then you as a second/named driver.

i have a 1.0l polo coupe and my insurance was like 3800, until i realised when i learned to drive in my own car it was only just over a thousand, i put my self on it as full uk when i passed and then put my girlfriend on it as a learner with a provisonal and it went down to 1200. i was well please and even when the provisonal passes it will not affect you as you are the main driver.

I got insured by More Than on my mums car which was a 1.4 nissan sunny. it was my mums policy but i was listed as the main driver and she was the named driver it was far cheaper than my own policy and it ment i could drive it as much as i wanted and could commute to work ( which is only 2.5miles away but still counts as comuting). didnt get any no claims but save hundreds of £'s
