This is my -90 Polo Coupe that I have been slowly building and upgrading.

I have already installed leather interior from a ColourConcept Golf. I had to narrow the rear legs of front seats to make them fit on stock mk2 rails.

Suspension is a "GTO" coilover set, front and back. Have been very satisfied with them! The front struts have been adjusted to lowest point(with helper springs still in place), rears have still plenty of threads left.

Engine is currently stock, but I am planning on doing a AFH swap with bike carbs during this upcoming winter. Have been searching for one from ebay and this forum already, since we dont have AFH's in our polos.

With the engine I will have to swap G40 front brakes, rear axle beam with arb and few other bits and parts to make it street legal in Finland. Basically I have to make it equivalent to a G40 Polo, for all the suspension, steering and brake parts.

I have been reading this forum a lot and will be doing so in the future too. I have found much info especially regarding the AFH swap and I'm sure I'll need a lot of help with it in the winter, I just hope I will find a nice engine soon :)

I'd have used a flat strip for mounting the headrest brackets though, those ones sticking out look like they could cause problems.

Thanks for all the comments! Here is a small update regarding front brakes:

I received the G40 calibers last week and have been cleaning them with citric acid. The carriers were clean enough in 2 days and calibers are still lying in there because there was still some rusty spots on them.

I used 10% mixture: 4 liters water and 400g citric acid.

When i got them:

Carrier after 2 days of citric acid bath, just rinsed with water, how could rust removal be any easier?

I also took one caliber out for test fit (just to make sure I can still use the Tramonts with these brakes and seems I will be ok)

Okay so now that I have found the engine and we have made a deal for it, I put the Polo back in the garage and it won't be coming out until next summer :) Don't know yet for sure of the day I'll receive it, but seller told he'd be taking it off the car this weekend so it can be shipped to me.

And I already started taking things apart:

While waiting for the engine to arrive, I decided to re-route the wiring harness for front lights etc.

First I opened it up to separate the distributor and window washers wires. (Also removed the cooling fan related wires completely, because I have already re-wired it earlier, with a relay and a switch on dash.)

Then covered the opened part with "self-vulcanizing" tape, also made a hole to get the harness inside the drivers side wing:

And finally covered with a plastic tubing and secured it so it sits nice and tight:

It's all about the little things that no one sees.

So the engine arrived after traveling one week from England to Finland :)

And out it comes!

Next job is to clean up and paint the AFH, perhaps fix or make a new intake manifold and also have to get the 4-brach welded since it has a crack..

Also parts I still need are: 5-speed gearbox with linkage, starter motor, G40 parts (drive shafts, front arms, arb mounting bracket and rear axle with arb)

1 reason could be that I don't think it would fit with those filters on.. as there really isn't that much space between the car and the bulkhead on the right hand side :)

Thats the main reason.

Previous owner had to cut a hole on the bonnet... and I dont want to do that :)

I also ordered new covers for the timing belt, I should get them tomorrow and after that I can start fitting the engine to its place... Just that I'm leaving out of town for work for 3 weeks so this project has to wait :(
