My boot lock on my Mk3 polo seems to be jammed, the key wont turn the lock, can anyone give suggestion what might be wrong?

I've tried using WD40 in the key hole, on the key, and climbing in to the boot from inside the car through the back seat and spraying it on the lock from there, also tried to release the lock from inside also but no luck (maybe because i don't have a clue what to do!). I've also tried pushing down on the boot lid and pulling it up and also tried pulling the handle while trying to turn the key! so now I'm officially out of ideas! Help please...!

Has it jammed locked? Or unlocked

I have the same problem but mine is jammed unlocked so I deal with it, depends where you live I suppose, if it is locked you'll have to crawl into the boot take of the black trim on the boot lid by popping the little pins then there should be a metal bar attached to the lock in the centre detach this then pull it to open your boot.

I've had it happen on 2 locks now they drop like flies the second one lasted about three days

It's jammed locked fortunately, I'd rather that so people can't get in!

I can put up with it I suppose I would just like it working, ha! Okay, I'l give that a try, at least if I can get it open I could maybe take it out to have a look whats wrong or replace it if I must!

I would say buy a new lock from somewhere preferably off a car that's breaking rather than a scrapped car as the scrappy one will have just sat there taking water damage ( why my second one broke I think!)

I just deal with it now but I'm in a nice ish place where car crime is low never even heard of a Car being broken into around my area, however if I was that concerned id get a new lock from somewhere

You could fit a boot poper? That way the only way to open it is by pressing a button inside the car and a thief would be able to open it from the boot as it doesn't work?

I thought of that using the rear wiper motor to pull the bar or were you thinking something different?

It'll be a broken pin in the lock. If you're locked out then you should be able to remove the inner trim and find the lever to pull it from there as a temporary measure. The lock comes out with 1 bolt through the lower edge of the boot lid.

An automotive locksmith told me he could mend them, but he was the sort who charged in a big way, so I've always just swapped the lock unit for a second hand one.

Not sure how you would use the wiper arm/motor as I haven't seen inside of the mk3 boot. I meant use a solenoid or central locking actuator (5wire) and wire it to a switch somewhere, you could even use the wipe stalk for the rear wipe biut you would lose the wiper function and you would need to make a safety switch so it doesn't work when ignition is on(or it may open while driving)
