Hi all I'm buying a new car but it has no tax, can I drive it to the MOT and back even though Iv not got the V5 yet? I no you've got to have an MOT before you can get tax

isn't it the case that you can drive it there as long as it's pre booked and your insured, if it fails you can drive it to a place of repair, but if it passes your not covered to drive it anywhere until it's taxed?

no, it has to show on the database that it has a valid mot and insurance to buy a tax disc.

I've done the same, but if you get pulled by a nob of a copper it could get very expensive. I tend to already have my route planned and go the most direct route so if I do get pulled on the way to tax it its clear from where I had the test, the time the test finished and where I am when pulled, that I'm on my way to the nearest post office. It's a pretty stupid rule tbh

you can drive any distance to a pre-booked MOT as long as the path is direct and you have valid insurance on your car, you must ensure that the insurance is valid, even if the car doesnt have MOT. It will be in the small-print of your MOT.

You must also ensure the car is road worthy, including lights, tyres etc.

I have driven 174 miles before to an MOT, with only valid insurance and a pre-booked MOT. I had a print-out from a conversation with the DVLA, stating that there was no distance limit in law

yeah it says if its taxed, iv been pulled before and the first thing they said was youv flagged up as no tax. followed by and no mot and no insurance

it was all insured etc but because the car had been off the road for a while and it was a saturday when i sorted it out it hadnt come up
