Hi all

Here goes (first post here so please don’t flame me too much). I have a 2005 VW Polo 1.4 automatic - the car has central locking and the factory alarm system, but no remote control. I have to lock/unlock the doors manually by inserting the key into the door each time. I'd like to upgrade to a flip key remote control unit (see attached pictures of my current HAA key, and the desired flip key/remote).

Would an aftermarket product like the RightClick Remote Keyless Entry for car central lock KE669W-ULT do the trick?

I need to ensure that the alarm is still activated upon locking the car remotely – and that the flip key is has a ID48 (T6) transponder for the immobilizer module (I might have to buy the ID48 module separately).

I read a few posts about upgrading the Remote Central Locking ECU, but to be honest the thought of me fumbling around with the wiring is enough to make anyone nervous.

Do any members know if this type of upgrade is possible and if they know of any installers (personal or trade) in the Middlesex area that I could contact?

Hi,

I had the same thin with my 9n3, I had bought the rclick kit and started installing it but I wasn't happy with it as it is a little difficult to install and the remotes are really weak and broke easily. I ten came across a guide on here which covered every thing. What you need to do is change your central locking ecu. This is actually really simple you just have to lay on your back in the foortwell and reach up. It is just a case of unplugging the old and pluging in the new. You may even already have the correct ecu as you have the alarm. Best way is to get VAGCOM plugged in and check the part numbers. Once that is done it is just a case of getting a remote (I have one if you need it) and getting the key cut (Hinckley.com I think) and then either swapping your old transponder chip or getting a new one and programming it with VAGCOM, really isn't that difficult and makes a lot of difference and it will work better then an aftermarket one.

Thanks a mil for this - is has certainly pointed me in the right direction and also provided some very valuable feedback regarding the RightClick product line.

When it comes to the VAGCOM I am a complete novice (hence we joining this forum in order to increase my skill set). Please bear with me while I ask some daft questions.

Would the VAGCOM tool, along with the VCDS software, allow me to retrieve my Central Locking ECU part number? I guess I could also use the tool to program the remote control frequency so that the ECU and remote control can communicate?

I plan on using a auto-locksmith to retrieve my SKC in order to program the transponder in the key for my immobilizer (as well as getting them to cut my new key).

Do you know the correct Central Locking ECU part number I should be on the lookout for?

I found this new key on e-bay, but the auto-locksmith informed me that I have a ID48 T6 transponder chip whereas this ebay key comes with a crypto chip, so I'd probably have to swap that out.

I think I found the guide you were referring to (link below) - seems kinda straight forward except for the VAGCOM and remote programming bits. That seems way out of my skill set for now - any suggestions there?

Hi, no worries busy, ask away that's what we are here for.

VAGCOM will come I very handy for a lot of other things. Ie diagnostics, data logging live telemetry etc, tere is a lot of different uses for.

If you do manage to get the locksmith to copy the chip an cut the key then that's the hard part done, but from what I remember the locksmiths I asked didn't do them, or wanted a lot to do tem, but rhayader was a while ago.

That is the guide, everything you will need is in there including the part numbers for the key and ecu etc. when I did mine I didn't have to copy the coding over from the old one it was plug and play for me (I think mine came out of a 4 door skoda fabia) although I can't say for sure that they will all work the same way.

The key programming/syncing is done on the car and doesn't require VAGCOM (that's needed for the immobiliser chip) and is a ADR of putting one key in te ignition and the other in the door and pressing a button while locking or unlocking. So, you may be lucky and already have the right ecu fitted and all you would need is the key?

I am going to keep a lookout for the Part #6Q0 959 433 E for the new Central locking ECU so that I can start to get to grips what is a good price, but fingers crossed when I look at my current CL ECU that it is already capable.

Iirc I paid around the £10-15 mark for the ecu.

I also got down into my footwell and took a look around. I think (big THINK) I located the electronic control unit (pics below) and it has a part number of 6Q0 937 049 D but for some reason I don’t think this is the correct module that would need replacing. Are the electronic control unit and the convenience control module 2 different parts? Any idea where I can locate the convenience control module?

Got your PM earlier; the central locking convenience unit is near the clutch pedal, and (from memory) is mounted end-on, so you can see the narrow end of it. It's also clipped in, and a pain to get to unless you're a contortionist with small hands! I followed the guide linked to elsewhere & found it no probs.

I have VCDS lite & VagTacho if you need them & fancy a trip to Herts.

Also, worth pointing out, once the key transponders (of any new flip keys) have been programmed you can reprogramme them any number of times to the same car. I now have 4 keys for my Polo - the 2 old ones, and the 2 new flip ones - all work, and I deleted them & reprogrammed them a few times during the process. You can't use a 2nd hand key with another key as the transponders can only be programmed to one car. You have to have any keys you want to add to the car with you during the reprogramming process - you delete all keys, then add the old & new ones all in the same process.

The central locking unit is located above the driver's footwell. You need to remove the air vent first (single torx screw holding it in place and then you just pull it out). The said ECU is in it's own bracket above the brake and clutch pedals.

Depending on your spec level, you may/may not have a trim panel on the underside of the dash to remove first.

As above this is te correct location of the ecu, but removing it isn't easy and it usually breaks the bracket, I had to use cable ties to keep mine in place.

I think I have found the correct module now, but like you said, it is extremely tight. It might be that it is already the correct module type

so I am going to order up some flip keys from ebay, I have a auto-locksmith lined up who will key the blanks and program the transponder; after all that I'll try and program the remote and fingers crossed it works. if it doesn’t then i'll take the additional step of purchasing the central locking module 6Q0 959 433 E part from ebay.

Has the auto locksmith scanned your current key and confirmed he can copy the transponder? It might be worth asking him again if they can deffinatly do it as when I asked none could do them, so I had to do it by getting the blank chip and programming with VAGCOM.

Hopefully they can and it is all straight forward.
