Just wondering how much damage is usually caused by the cam to cam timing belt stripping its teeth?

is it just bent valves or does it do more damage usually?

any help gratefull.

Usually just a few bent exhaust valves.

Any damage to pistons is likely to be cosmetic, though bent valves don't tend to do the valve guides any good it's not likely to be anything other than valves.

cheers thought as much. haven't had much dealing with this engine and was just curious.

The amount of damage depends on the engine speed and any attempts at trying to start it.

The worst i've seen is on a customers rover where 2 valves snapped and penetrated a piston and destroyed the head but the vast majority of the damage was caused by the owner dragging the car on a rope and dropping the clutch in an attempt to "unseize" it

pistons look fine through the plug holes, i will get the head off some time this week for a proper look. i can turn the crank pully by hand without the cam cover on and no comp so minced valves.

whole topend rebuild i think.
