Moving on from a polo gti

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have had my 6N2 Gti now for over a year and have done everything i set out to do in terms of modifications.

I'm 24 now and have a few years no claims meaning insurance companies are not so harsh with quotes so am toying with the idea of getting a bigger engined car.

My question is basically if you were in my position what would you do if you had around 5 thousand to spend on you next car?

Polo 9n Gti, the 1.8T one sounds like it would be your sort of thing.

Carrado!

mk2 VR6... then use the remaining money to spend on fuel to get home.

Mk4/5 Golf

A good sized engine Bora (look nice once you have put some work into them)

or even branch out into other VAG companies like Audi A3's, the 1.8T is a good engine, you may even be able to get a decent S3 for that money!

Just remember, don't go french or go and buy an Ashtray or Astra as i have heard a few people call them

Well it's very hard to say, myself, because i'm not wanting another car and so i'm not in the position. So i can only put myself in the position, and then i just have too many ideas and options of what i'd like to run.

It probably wouldn't be something 'as it is' though. But more likely something i'd spend a few weeks modifying to get how i want to run it.

I'd like to think i'd go for this, then spend a bit tuning it to my preference (such as maybe a set of Ronal LS's and a newer better engine like a TB'd normally aspirated 2.0 20v)..

But then, if i was in the right mood, i just might wanna put the engine and interior from this..

Into this.

Get it howling through twelve bike carbs, now that'd be something worth driving to work..

200sx. No question. Ps13 preferably.

I'd go Porsche shopping, wouldn't get much of a Porsche, but you know. 944 turbo is acceptable and possible with 5K

civic type r ep3

Gti 1.8t can't go wrong, loads of fun to drive :) more fun for your money than a golf

R32.

Without a doubt.

You might just get a poverty spec 350Z (or an import) for your budget. Like a TT but not so gay and faster.

I would probably buy this, daily drive it for about a week, realise that it was a stupid thing to do, sell it on and probably repeat the process with something equally silly.

RenaultSport Clio kicks ten shades out of a hot Polo. Trufax.

MK5 Golf GTI

Flipside is, that budget's not far off Boxster money these days. Yeah, it's not fast, but it's a RWD Porsche for Ford Focus money.

True! Was tempted by a cheap Boxster S before I bought the Datsun, but the potential running costs put me off a bit. The decent Boxsters generally still seem to fetch strong money - though maybe one of the cheap high milers or cars with minimal history might've been worth a punt.

I second a 200sx so long as you make it at least stage 1

And keep a large portion of your budget aside for bottom end rebuilds

Evo 4

Be paying the same again in insurance

wow, amazing how many different cars people would go for most of your ideas though couldn't serve as a daily car, perhaps i should have stated this. Golf R32 or something with a 1.8t is leaning towards the kinda thing i had in mind i may hold off and try and save a little more though to buy a R32 with low mileage as for around 5 thousand they have high mileage.
