But when you're heterosexual Neil; soft furnishings and interior design is something you leave for the missus to worry about...

To be fair, the Datsun interior is solid but doesn't feel or look as upmarket as a TT - unless you get a late spec 350Z where they re-did the interior trim to improve things a bit. The TT really doesn't excite me, so it was always between S2000/350Z/Boxster S.

S2000 is an interesting option for the OP if they're after something more sporty. Early ones can be had for as little as £3.5k, and I doubt they'll lose much money if you look after it.

if i had my time again, i really would be tempted by a s2000, boxters really are gayer than a TT i feel but there a fantastic car to drive and theres a point in the exhaust note where it just sounds amazing.

TT's bland as standard, i can see why they got a slating when they were new. But coilovers, some decent tyres and a proper exhaust makes it more entertaining (for me anyway)

Been toying with a supercharger for time now. But it's at the bottom of the money spending list. lol

Lack of torque in the S2000 put me off for daily use as my commute is mainly motorway. Find an empty B-road though and they make sense. Given that there's no replacement for them either, I see them being a bit of a cult car in the future.

I looked at XKRs actually! Bit old man, terrible fuel economy, not hugely reliable - and there are too many bits of Transit and Fiesta knocking around for my liking. On the plus side, it's an awful lot of car for the money and they're f-ing fast.

But XKRs and XJRs are the same as Boxsters - buy the one that's not cheap, but has been maintained money-no-object. Then you stand a chance of running it on sensible money. Buy a cheap one and it's a lottery.

Audi S4? 4.2 V8 is probably out of budget, but the 2.7 twin-turbo V6 can be had for under £5k and is hugely tunable.

Mikey one of the most fun modern cars I have been driven was a highly tuned S3, probably mostly so because it wasn't mine and the owner was so close that if I had of killed it I could of talked my way out of it, but it was hella fun until he wrote it off on a golf course

Modern cars are boring. Clio 172/182 is the exception. S2000's are super twitchy and scary to drive quickly. CTR's aren't really that fast. Can't go wrong with a 6 pot BMW.

A few creature comforts doesn't make a car boring. But likewise, quick on-paper times don't make a car exciting either. It depends on the car.

And since when has an S2000 been "twitchy and scary"? They're a little tail-happy in the wet, but they're not exactly widowmakers.

Agree about the CTR though, I was really underwhelmed. But then I'd just got out of an S2000.
