I sprayed the bumpers on the 'loon with textured paint, but it was more like a leather texture Can anyone recomend a paint that has a 'bobbly' texture to match the standard texture?

its all down to how you spray it and the cap on the can, i have 5 different caps for my texture paint

innotec is the best I've found , you can vary it a bit by how close you hold it

at the end of the day its a reasonble look , but close up you can tell its textured paint and not orig plastic

Not bothered if it looks like its sprayed, just want a better finish to the one I have

The stuff I had had several nozzles, but it just gave different 'leather' grains. It was weird stuff as when you sprayed it, you could see it shrink and crack, creating the leather look. Finished coat looked like the texture of an mk2 dash.

The mistake you're making is using textured paint - i used a coat of satin vinyl and the bumpers texture completely shows through unaffected. One coat was still flawless a couple of years later and the bumper doesn't look painted, just looks new.

Mine needs re-doing now, but it'll only take a couple of hours as nitromors gets it off and 2K thinners rapidly preps it after that - i don't mind having to do it again, this is four years later!

This does mean of course, that any marks in the plastic also shine through - but that makes it look more natural!

But I've repaired the bumper in same areas, so the texture needs to be re-created on these parts

Course, you're not gonna get a paint that beads to a grain like that, the best textured paint i've seen was on some cam covers which is a frosted crackle, and there's the opposite type that expands to a creased effect instead of shrinking to a cracked effect. Otherwise you're looking at pressing a printed surface (a mould) onto the skin of semi-dry paint to press a print into it.

Stuff that, i'd just replace the bumpers with new ones. Fronts were £23 three years ago, three times that now though, backs are cheaper, we all use breadvan ones but they need a trim on the smooth tucked bits at the very ends to clear the arch bulge on coupes and possibly a bit for the loons quarter skin too.

The clips are in the wrong place on the differnt models, as well as the return being of different lengths. I've had a bradvan rear on the loon but it didn't look right

Have considered it actually. Not sure how it will look though, might mean glossing all the trim. Or spray them satin/matt. A lot of work getting them smooth though

I think i gave the game away once, but nobody noticed. I pity the fool who buys one in kit form for the car, because they don't fit and require you to get the drill out. Not that it tells you to, because apparently the instructions are useless. But hey, they're chrome! And doesn't that just suit the car perfectly..

My one was a perfect fit, even came with body colour fixings which fit perfectly both ends, and it genuinely looks factory fitted. Cost? Two quid.

Sourcing this took intuition, along with my usual simplistically philosophical thinking, as did fitting it perfectly.

I used to go and do all the research, then tell everyone on here how i did it. In hindsight, i was being a spoilsport and made it too easy, which is boring. In recent times i've slowed down with that, much better for others to experience the enjoyment of finding stuff for themselves.

When i go to breakers yards, i never forget my tape measure. When i think of all the suitable parts it's allowed me to find, it's worth it's weight in gold.

So next time you're at a breakers looking for bonnet struts, even on small cheap cars, use your tape measure - and don't make the mistake of looking under a bonnet for one. One was strong enough, but now i have one on the other side too. It actually had a nicer action before, but i like to over-engineer stuff - last thing i need at the side of the road in high winds is a broken hand.

You did tell, and i noticed because i questioned you on it.

Just like i quiestiond you about your top caps being off something else.

You DO NOT need to drill holes for the ''chrome'' items.

Some chrome ones are a nightmare on the 6n's, admittedly i've seen them fit properly on MK2's so fair play on that point, calm down dear.

The whole bloody car is pikey, that post is a case in point! The wiring's no exception but it is at least safe.

Anyway, on topic, one way to add texture spots to localized areas is to spray a little puddle of some of the satin paint onto a sheet of plastic, then roll a wire wheel (or dab a wire brush) onto it, then roll/dab said brush onto the area.

It won't be perfect obviously, but it's all i can think of.

I dont think its so much a game tbh, as frankly no one much cares, either way... the generic cheap chrome ones off ebay worked perfectly for me. came off a 6n too not a mk3, i didnt go all ninja and ''nearly give the game away''.

If memory serves (i never really gave a shit then and i dont much now so didnt bother trying to remember) the bonnet lifter is a saxo boot item or other equally shit generic chav mobile and the top mount is off IIRC a fiat of some form, a rare(ish) one but still something equally as shit.

You know you were correct with the Saxo - you remembered that pretty accurately, given that it was a good couple of years ago (i haven't lived where the photo was taken for over three years, and only ever said once).
