Done a bit more work today. It now starts up and runs properly, without missing. Changed the coolant temperature sensor for a new one, that cost £4.50 off ebay. Hopefully the problem wont return.

Washed the door and wing and the G3 came out again. Then a quick polish with auto glym super resin sorted them out:

Did a bit more work on the sill and rear arch areas too. More filling and sanding. Found a shallow dent in front of the arch, so filled thet aswell. It has progressed further than the pic now, and alot of the time was spent trying to get the filler smooth and level (it still isnt):

Looks to be going good but that door did it fit first time because I'm after a door for mine and my mates moaning saying it wont fit or some rubbish.

Tell your mate he's a bit thick . All doors are exactly the same, and it was very easy to fit. Took me and a mate 15 minutes to get old one off and new one on and lined up :-).

Got a bit more done on this in the last few days. Got alot of sanding and filling done and finally got the rear quarter in primer. Noticed some imperfections and did a bit more sanding to get it perfect, then some more primer. Also started work on the door, and got that primered too:

Left the primer to dry for a few days, and today i got it flatted back, cleaned off, and sprayed the top coat of candy white :

Removed the masking when it had dryed for a bit. Paint is a bit dull, but i will flat it back and polish up. Looks alot better than before. Just the door to sort on this side now:

Not too bad for outside, in cold and less than ideal conditions, with rattle cans!?

Did a bit of messing about with this today. So update time!

Before. Standard red/ orange lights:

During. Lights removed. Area behind cleaned up:

After. New black tail lights fitted. Were £15. Bargain :-D:

Also put on some better side repeaters. Smoked ones i had wouldnt stay in properly. Picked these 16V ones up for £2:

Then i finished off the paintwork on the drivers side lower rear quarter and sill. Got it flatted back with 1200 grit wet or dry. Then cut back with G3 and a really good polish. I am very pleased with the result. You cant even see where it was blended in :

Had another go at the drivers door bottom, and found a few more tiny bits of rust. So ground back, filled and sanded them. Then sanded the whole area ready for primer. Also removed the glue left from the trim strip:

Sprayed stone chip paint round the arch lip to match drivers side. Removed Trim strip from the passenger side ready to prep it for paint. I've decided the strips wont be going back on, as its a pain to get the glue off them and put new sticky on there, and it looks far better without them. Passenger door strip will be removed too. You can also see one of the centre caps i found for it.

As it stands now :-):

Little bit more spraying done. Got the left arch finished off and primered. Should be putting top coat on tomorrow:

Also managed to get the drivers door bottom in top coat yesterday. Just needs a week to cure, and i will flat it back and polish. Looks much better :-D:

What do people think of the transformation? Considering the paint/ materials and the panels cost £100. And lighting upgrades cost £18

I've even sold the old wing for £2, and possibly the old back lights for £10. So have made some back!

Lights will pass mate. As they already have before on the lads car i bought them off. That rule only applies if they have product- paint, laminex etc. on them. These were made as smoked, so are legal :-) Your welcome to come and inspect my work, if you think i'm genius

Picking up a set of alloys tomorrow, that i won on ebay for £21. Yet another bargain! Pics up when i get them. Should be fittied by wednesday

Steels will soon be gone. Picked up my alloys today for £21 :-D . 4 good tyres, one is new! They are standard 6N2 5 spokes, and look pretty smart actually. A bit of curbing on a few of them, but nothing major. Here they are:

won't pass if the tester is sharp, those smoked hella lights are normally supplied with some red reflectors (same applies with all the other coloured rear lights you could get for the 6n).

I had a MK1 as my first car, hence the user name 'malaga red' (a MK1 Polo colour) It got too expensive, so had to give up on it. A Mk2 is what i want next, and i'm on the look out for one. However i dont want another OEM project, i have the MK3 for that. If i got a MK2 i'd keep it basic, as thats what i miss about the MK1. It had nothing

Theres an easy way around that. Stick a small piece of reflective tape on the lights. My dads van has black rear lights. He's passed 2 MOT's with no red reflectors.

Cheers mate. I'm not kown in my family for patience, but i seem to have some when it comes to project cars :-) . Its really been trying my patience today though .

I thought i'd have a nice relaxing day of flatting back the drivers door, spraying the rear quarter on the passengers side and fitting my alloys. Easy? No.

Made a good start, with a nice job of the quarter. But buggered the door up and had to paint it again. Which annoyed me. Then i decided to swap the rims. Dirty great screw in one of the tyres which i hadnt noticed. Then i had a snapped wheel bolt, which is stuck in the front hub. I didnt snap it, someone else had done it by over tightening, and left the bolt head just hanging on. I thought, its not flush, so if i get the disc off i will be able to get something on it and try to turn it. Caliper was a real bugger to remove. Eventually got it off. Then i find a Rotten disc brake retaining screw. So try and cut a slot with multi tool and grinding bit. Multi tool dies. Managed to get it to start to turn. Then the head sheared off, so couldnt get the disc off. Put the alloy on anyway with 3 bolts and gave up as it was going dark .

Managed to get all the wheels on, and started to re fit the bump strips:

Looks a million times better that when it had steels. Amazing the difference alloys can make :-D It needs a sreious clean though.

Did you not already have a set of those alloys from the Coupe? I swear they are the same wheels with different centres. You are right, it looks much better with the alloys.

Believe it or not those wheels are completely different. The MK3 ones spokes are very domed out, and they have a bigger offset (sit in further) and are narrower than the 6N ones. These are much nicer looking. Cant stand the MK3 sport raders- its the fact that the spokes stick out almost as far as the wheels are wide.

Cheers buddy. These look alot better with the valver bumpers on :-) I had running lights on my old white mk3. I put them in the indicators. Looked awesome at night.

yeh had them before but wanted the bumper ones just didnt have time to sink them in properly

Got all the paint finished and polished up. Side strips back on the left side and gave it a good clean. Just the right side strips to go on and an oil change to do now :-)

Its close to how i wanted now, with just the drivers side bump strips to re-fit and an oil change to do. Its also now for sale (see appropriate section), as i want something older as a project. I almost want to keep it and carry on doing stuff, thats how pleased i am with it :-D . I also have a bit more appreciation for 6N's. I didnt like them before but its grown on me.
