Picked this up last week for our lass. Does anyone know if the GTi engines bolt straight in and plug and play on the same loom?

Just put her a 12 month ticket on it, wanted a rear bearing and front indicators were insecure.

Got GTI Grill, GTI Fog lights, Pioneer CD Player, GTI Xenons and indicators, I'm wanting a splitter now. Anyone got one?

The engine does bolt straight in but you will need a new loom, ecu, gearbox etc. You need to get all them parts on !

Its our lasses first car mate so insurance is going to be a fortune so I'm just making it look like one for her, the engine was just a thought i had and wanted answering whilst starting the topic. I've now got the splitter, some wheels required now. Its a 1.0 and wouldn't pull the skin off of rice pudding its slow as owt ha.

well i suppose most cars are slow compared to your polo

Haha, i supose so ye.

Just got a GTi badge for the front grill, a complete GTi tailgate and the chance of some gti wheels.

She has said strictly no modifying to any panel on the car so thought id set about the front bumper as she wont see the car for a few days with been at work and she wont know the difference when its done anyway. Ruined a tip on my soldering iron but i got there in the end. Ill chuck some paint at it tomorrow. Ordered some GTI BBS RX2 wheels from a clubpolo member, fitted the gti splitter and badge. Just waiting on the fog grills coming. I've got some more pics but their taking hours to upload on snapbucket for some reason.

Only got it in primer today as I've been busy at work. Managed to get my hands on these colour concept recaros though so fitted them after id finished. Shes going to kill me when she sees it with all stuff I've done to it. There might be a smooth bumper and some recaros for sale ha.

Our of curiosity why order a GTI badge when it's a 1litre, I can understand the grille, but the badge, why?

+1 to the last post?

Fair play for not wasting any time though, get straight to the point! haha

As i want it to look like a propper gti for her and without the badge it wouldn't be complete. Its got all the gti styling bar the engine as she wouldn't be able to insure one and she'd kill herself ha.

I do aswell ha, I'm gutted i didn't get time to smooth the side strips over while its having the respray.

this is going to look awesome man :)

I've just done a gti swap mate. You'll need a new loom, engine mount, immob, ecu and a key. I'm using a 1.4 8v box on mine with a gti clutch and flywheel. I'm also using my 1.4 starter, fan and fuel pump.

Aha, might be a job for some time in the future, if she learns to drive this 1.0 properly first that is ha

Got it painted today, can't get no good pictures though at this time.

Snagging list:

  • We didn't have enough paint for the roof so its not been done

Sills were undersealed so I've painted over them and they look crap

Bumpers have a few ripples

Bonnet is a little patchy

Missing bump strip from the rear quarter

Wing mirrors need painting

Its killing me looking at it. I need things perfect and its just not, like the painter said though "what do you expect when its free?"

I'm sure she'll smash it to bits anyway so it probarbly wasn't worth painting ha.

Have the bumpers not been laquered? They look really satin'y. Looks cool though :)

Nope the gti sits a good bit further foreward. I tried it with my old 8v mount first but the engine sat at a wild angle, I couldn't get gears properly and the sway mount at the gearbox didn't fit properly
