ElsaWin lists the following for a 2000/1 1.6 ARC engine code "DTX, ETG, or FFW" the code is stamped into the top of the bellhousing or on the data sticker in the boot

Oiled green scourer pad can be good for cleaning up the gearbox code on the top of the gearbox, but it's never easy to see.

Most very late 6n and the 6n2 petrol units fit, but the ratios vary. You need the casting for the alloy oil sump mounts, my late 6n 1.6 DKE has them but no treads tapped into them for the bolts. Tapped up, this would fit (not for sale, just an example).

The ratios would be too long from this one though, the GTi ratios are more like the 1.4 16v gearboxes though ideally a fairly long final drive with short close ratio individual gearing. The 1.4 8v are close but not so close ratio. But it's down to preference really.

Just ensure you use a 16v box unless you want long gearing, and it has the casting for the sump bolts.

Also, if you have traction control, this kills gearboxes! Models fitted with it had an uprated diff, not that it worked, so you'll need to either replace it with an uprated one, or uprate it yourself (or by a mechanic) with the crownwheel bolt conversion.
