Hello,

One stupid thursday afternoon i decided to have a bid on ebay ooops :( and this is where it started...

first up started by mounting it to a spare engine that i had laying around which came with the car when i bought it

Then set about making a down pipe flange for the exhaust side of the turbo...

Then with a spare few bits of pipe i had knocking around and a few other bits manufactured a downpipe

I then made sure that the downpipe was going to clear on the rad and fan assembly including the power steering

and continued on

with the spare engine i had i took the pistons out and took them to a friend and them machined to lower the compression ratio

I then pulled the engine out of my car to start rebuilding it as it was smoking quite heavily and disassembled and reassembled it

lightened fly wheel went in at this stage :D

to start with i ran it n/a again to get the engine run in and i still didnt have some of the vital pieces

i then started to make a recirc valve blanked

i then started to make a plate to go over the blank which i hand filed from a square

i then got hold of a forge spacer plate and used my original blank as the plate got a bit tiresome filing the square i then continued to make a heatshield to stop it melting the front valence

i then had to make a strengthener plate to stop the manifold from cracking due to it holding the weight of turbo above it

then the oil and water lines finally turned up and started modifying them to fit

I'm using the oil pressure sensor as the oil feed for the turbo and made a t piece to hold the sensor in as well

As far as i know its a 1st for using this turbo onto this engine so a big thumbs up :D

well i still have both the chalk and the cheese combo in there i took exactly 1.99mm off the pistons (within 1 micron) arm.... cr yeh about that..... i didnt bother measuring it now wishing i did so I'm after anyone that has a spare piston laying about to send me one so i can get the same taken off again and measure it in the spare engine I'm obviously willing to pay some beer tokens to get it to me

bhp well..... its all a test car no one is really sure how much I'm actually going to get out of it actuator pressure is 4psi and thats what its running on at the moment.... management well i have access to alot of tools which allow me to try with the standard management if it all gets a bit to much i will be going onto the likes of emerald... the way i saw it was if i went aftermarket management then i had to get forged pistons and rods and run 1.5bar because youve got the management to control it there

continuing on from last nights story

500mile rings

My own headwork including throttle body and inlet

1.4 8v stainless manifold

2 1/4 inch stainless full exhaust

I then proceeded to take my car apart and start the conversion over to turbo i first had to make an intake adapter as the intake on this turbo was to shallow to get a bit of silicon pipe to hold on

This was the first attempt at the oil return and over the previous weekend i had to remake the oil return as it was leaking due to me not thinking straight at this point :)

I went up the road and data logged the current issues with 4 psi of boost

fuelling was spot on reading the lambda sensor not running lean at all

Knock well this is where the issue started part throttle i was getting about 7-8 degrees but once it had full boost at 1500rpm it was sending the knock reading through the roof so that was it drive back home and get it in bits fix the oil leak and wrap the exhaust manifold as the engine bay temps were sky rocketing this was probably due to the timing and the exhaust at the same time i also changed the dump valve over for a standard bosch one as the bailey twin piston was maybe a bit overkill for the amount of boost I'm planning to run

Finished for now but the only un blurry picture i got as it was raining when i reassembled it yesterday

We have taken 4 sectors out the timing table and it allows me to part throttle pretty much everywhere and get to 70mph so hopefully next weekend ill have a bit more of a play if it all becomes a bit to annoying with the chip changing as i really need to get hold of an encryption board then I'm going to put aftermarket management on it, but at the moment thats how its staying

plans for the future

Single stage boost controller to run 8psi

Watermeth kit to come in at full throttle and with the boost controller to help out the timing and intake temperatures due to no intercooler max I'm seeing at the moment is 42 degrees a little bit warm but why make things more complicated by putting an intercooler in there

Relocation of the oil cooler

Finish off the mapping so i can run full throttle :) and put all the interior back in.......

Oh and get hold of a standard piston to take the 1.99mm off and work out how much the compression ratio actually is :)

i love this. i really enjoy looking at pictures off all these engine swap threads even though i have absolutley no idea what I'm looking a although i wish i did :lol:

Well at the moment I'm having a few issues standard ecu and map sensor just poo themselves when coming onto boost if you sneak up to about 4k and plant it in 2nd pulls very well fuellings rite and very little knock but I'm definately struggling for low end driving

At the moment I'm going through issues with a different map sensor which is annoying but hey know one said this was going to be straight forward

Excellent thanks its already on the road driving around just not 100% setup yet

The more i drive this car the more i want standalone management because resoldering chips onto the board is getting a bit tedious already but rome wasnt built in a day and all that :)
