Alright guys, been a paid member on here for quite a while now but never actually posted but last week i acquired my first car. Its a Polo S with the 75bhp 16v engine with all the usual bits and bobs in it.

The only thing about the car that lets it down for me is the number of doors as it's a 5door and i really wanted a 3 door but i'm not that bothered tbh.

Anyway this thread will probably be dead for quite a while because with the price of insurance on first time drivers not easy on the pocket i can't afford to get it dropped on coilies, etc as well as notifying insurance so may be a while. May as well tell you some of my plans for it though:

- Coilovers

- Rims (undecided)

- Golf VR6 Leather seats

- Dye headliner/pillars, etc black

- custom iPhone dock in coin tray

- Small sub and amp

- clean bodywork up from scratches, dents, etc.

- install alarm/immobiliser

- paint callipers blue

- de-badge 'polo' and '1.4'

- honeycomb grill

- new head unit

Any advice on what to change or add is welcome, always looking for different ideas.

Only got one picture at minute but as soon as weather picks up i'll get some more in it and one with the new head unit in.

How much did you pay mate if you dont mind my asking. AND HEy, nout wrong with 5doors!!!

Paid just under £500 mate, bargain tbh.

Well I say that, needs a bit of work doing it but I'm planning on keeping it a while with it having a decent sized engine so don't mind throwing some money into it. When i ever get some anyway haha

I did think about removing rear door handles but now thinking about it it will look a bit daft so that's gone out the window now.. other than what i've listed i can't think of what i could do

And yeah I do like the 5doors, will help a lot when i decide to save up and buy another BMX but that won't be for quite some time now

Yeah, that's what i thought in the end. That it would be pointless so not going to waste my time

Finally got stereo installed, and now started work on my iphone dock built into the ashtray. Will see how that goes.

Wil upload some pics later

Still a work in progress, but hopefully it will work.

Need to stick cage on and the the surround, took me a fortnight to get working.

Decided against the original dock idea and moved it up into the coin tray which sits at side of the cup holder.

looks a lot smarter tbh.

Another small update...

Grabbed a few bits off Jamie (dadude01) which was alloys, stubby aerial, and plate holders

Just need to get it lower desperately and with the new job hopefully I will be able to afford insurance increases for it but we will see what happens.

Not really had much progress on this lately except a few minor things

firstly I installed some blue LED footwell lights. Wired these up to the courtesy lights so will come on when doors are open or i turn on the courtesy light. Didn't want them on constantly or by having to use a switch.

Currently thinking about moving them to the lower part of dash though, where the handbrake is to glow from the side of that but still unsure.

Next up is that I put in a new stereo. Went for a JVC double din unit which IMO looks a lot better than the Sony I had before.

Thinking of what other small touches I could come up with I decided on installing some LED sidelights as the ones I had in it were looking a little tired. Have to say that this made a massive difference and all for only 99p

Whilst installing the sidelights I realised that the headlights just wasn't clean enough. They were very cloudy so onto eBay I went and ordered myseld some wet & dry paper grades 1000, 1200, 1500, 2000, and 2500. When that came I had a go at restoring the headlights.

At first I wasn't happy with the result that I had achieved but then I realised I didn't put enough effort into it and read a guite wrong. So after attempt 2 they came out looking brilliant (compared to how they were anyway)

Next up on my list of little things to upgrade is the interior light. This is going to be changed to a white LED to give the interior light a cleaner look.

After that, hopefully I will be ordering my HIDs. Still unsure on what temperature to get yet though, torn between 6000k and 8000k

Any advice would be welcome on that.

Anyway now i'll let some pictures do a little talking instead of me...

My lights are awesome, at least they're not on all time :)

Sony was ok but limited on what i could do, had to be controlled by a remote as there was no buttons on the headunit which got a bit annoying.

its alright though, got it as a spare.

will look into bi-xenon. :)

Reds too common IMO, I do like white cars.

So today I gave the polo a service whilst weather was OK.

Seems to run a lot nicer, not as noisy which can only be a good sign

So after I did that I took a few pictures.

Installed new interior lights earlier in week. There's actually 2 in there... One white and one blue, thinking of taking the blue one out though but will decided some other time 'cause it's not important.

And just got a shot of the headunit I have as the one up there ^ isn't very clear

Reckon I want some GTi clock surrounds tbh as they look quite good so might look into that.

Also need to sort that arch gap out and with a decent insurance quote I got yesterday with coilovers declared I may be able to sort that sooner than expected.

Need to tidy a few wires up too so will do that in week when I got a bit of spare time

Well my thread has officially died as of late.

After having the car on the road for just 2 days it decided it didn't want to play ball no more so off it went to sit on my dad's drive up until now.

So when the car died on me we plugged in into Vagcom and got many faults which all linked into the following...

- Both lambda sensors

- EGR Valve

- Ignition Coil

So off I went down to ECP to get some new parts for the car. Bought everything hoping it would fix my problem but nope, luckily though when we put most of these parts on it was getting dark. It was at this point when we saw that the manifold was glowing red. We thought that it might have a blocked cat so off i went to buy a new cat has the one i had one was fucked anyway to be fair but that with a new centre section too didn't solve the problem.

At this point I left the car until around a month ago when I decided it was time to get it sorted.

After tryig to figure out what it could be i was told it could be exhaust valves being bent so I took the head off and took it into a guy who did refurbishments and asked him to give it a pressure test. He told me that they looked ok and that it would need skimming. Turns out that the guy I brought the car off knew the head had blown, took it apart, stuck some gasket sealant on to stop the coolant leaking out and stuck it back together. Bosged in other words.

At the same time as this, although the belts looked new, i replaced them with new ones to play it safe and set the timing up. Started the car with everything back on and still didn't run right.

So we got a mechanic we know to come have a look who instantly told me the timing was out and lent me the tool to correctly align everything up. After we had set this up the car ran a lot smoother but still had a slight misfire.

After scratching heads for many days it turns out the we had put the ht leads in the wring order which caused the misfiring and now she's back up and running... for now.

So tomorrow night, i have someone coming to fetch the car to take it for the MOT which it should hopefully pass but whilst I was messing with the engine, I also had a play around with the interior of the car and got my new xenon ballasts fitted to my GTi lights with new headlight adjuster clips.

Now for some pictures so the mass write up I just did doesn't bore people too much

Put a shark fin replacement aerial on

took some of dash out for a respray

Then took the carpet out for cleaning

Gave some of the dash a coat in primer and one base coat

started spraying the headliner

centre dash is back in without the headunit surround

Put the roof lining back in

As i didn't know if the mani was blocked or not, i decided to smash to cat out.

Will post some more, better pictures up soon when I have everything back in properly.

Also plan on getting some coilovers in the near future, well as soon as I've sold my 6n really
