Alright guys I'm looking for a mill for home use for future projects and hobbies, basically can anyone recommend any good ones? Not sure if there is any of you on here that have one, I've checked eBay and Clarke but Clarke seem exspensive. I'm not looking got amazing or exspensive mills just one that will do the odd job, or if any of you know of anyone selling :)cheers

If you want anything decent prepare to pay for it.

I've seen cheap small home lathes and millers and the build quality is crap. Everything loose and doesn't fit together right.

There are a lot of places that sell decent one though, try machine mart or other places like that, and make sure you have a look at one before you buy it maybe even try it out and see what you think.

Suppose it depends on what parts you will be making as well and to what tolerances.

Myford, Dore Westbury, Chester - check eBay

None of them are cheap though even second hand in need of some repair- I sold my Super 7 lathe (Myford) for £1k last year, I thought I'd got a right deal, until the bloke who picked it up told me he sold them (after refurb) for £2500-£3500...!

Using a cheap lathe or mill doesn't bear thinking about. I could never afford one good enough myself, fortunately i'm in the line of work where i don't have to.

I'm buying myself a mini lathe next week the one I'm looking at is around £500 but to me it's worth it and its a good spec and after crimbo il be getting a mini mill too which il be looking to spend the same on

In my opinion you need to spend some good money in order to get a good reliable an worthwhile machine

Also I've heard machine mart are having a vat free day in the next week or two if so it would be worth you looking to see what they have to offer as that would be a massive saving

A ton off a monkey, i'd have some of that.

A table-top lathe for little bits of nylon and ally i could probably work with, maybe weld a few bits of RSJ to make a strong relay chassis, ideal for car stuff except wheels/brakes. But with big lathes things can go very wrong and get very messy, we're talking teeth and eyeballs being thrown about the walls, i wouldn't wanna get complacent with any of them so cheap chinese stuff scares the hell outta me.

Went in machine mart today and they had one of the clarke mini lathes on display I'm looking at getting except the one I'm looking at isn't Clarke and is better specced for a little less but it gave me a look at the size of them (smaller than expected) still good and just got to have a proper inspection of it before I spend my wad load on one

I was impressed tbh

Also found a vice that has side to side and back and front movement so it converts a pillar drill in to a basic mill which I may get til I get a proper mini mill early next year

Also had a good look at the mini mills too not bad but I would shop around for the accessories as some are cheap and others expensive just look around as there is varying prices for a lot of stuff
