My MKII Breadvan build in USA

Featured Replies

Hello everyone!

Let me start off by saying thank you for all the help you guys have been giving me here! This forum rules!

For every buildup... There is a story.. And here is mine:

It all started when a guy was driving around the country side of the UK. He spotted the car under a tree full of dust and decided to stop! After a Chat with the lady he found out she was a widow and that her late husband was the original owner of the breadvan. With 80k miles and mint condition he bought the car on the spot and brought it over to USA. A friend of mine went and bought the car from him! It was live at first sight for me. I offered to buy it from him, but he wouldn't budge. Until he found the car he really wanted, Acura EL, so he called me saying he needed to sell it right away to buy the Acura and gave me first pick, there were 3 others trying to buy it. But since he knew I would appreciate it more then anyone, he waited on me to get home from school. We closed the deal after I took my wife on a ride in it!

I got it and changed wheels right away! As he sold me the car with 13s steel wheels.

I drove the car a bit and first and only problem, the dizzy went. After getting tired of looking for it I found the forum here. Became a member and started looking at the British tuning style, and I have to admit! The 1.4 16V AFH is very nice with the carbs.

So I started looking for all the engine choices. And finally bought a AFH here. It will be shipped to me and I will get it going and carbed! I will be doing more things to it.

Here is what Is being done: (red is done.. Blue is being worked on)

Engine

-AFH swap

-Carbs

-Electronic ignition

-Shave bay

-Slim radiator

-Polished bits

-Powdercoated bits

Interior

-Wood shift knob

-Leather wrap the cloth part of the seats (not the checker board)

Suspension

-Cup kit

-Bags over struts

Drivetrain

-Rear disc conversion

-New bushings all around

-New breaks

-Powdercoating on all metal bits

Wheels

-BBS RF reverse mounted prima Donna style with gold bolts and gold center cap

Sound

-Custom Side exit exhaust :)

-Custom stealth box

-Custom speaker mounts

-Hidden radio

Hope you guys enjoy it :)

Very nice! i shall be following this quite closely, You are quite disadvantaged with most of your parts being based over here in europe - so seeing what things you do with parts from america will be really interesting as it could be quite unique and spawn a whole new look on modifying the mk2 polo.

Good luck with the build, if you need help at all I'm always on the end of a message

Lol,

This is looks amazing!

Beauty. Nice whack with the lowering stick will get it nailed

If you find it's not quick enough, 1.6 crank with pump and belt pulley plus 1.6 16v rods are all you need to get a few more cubic inches in there - looks like it's already got tons of character though and it's gonna be such a giggle to drive, love the interior 8-)

It should be interesting for sure to use parts from here! I'm already on the lookout for rear disc parts from scirocco

And I will be asking questions for sure! Thank you sir!

It is loved a lot already! And with the swap it will be awesome! I hope to do the whole thing quick as I want to driv it already! And from what I understand.. That interior is rare even for the UK.

given all the stuff you have to choose from over there and how so much modifying is possible as i think the states really gets the custom scene, its a very cool choice.

Enjoy

Where did you get the seats from?

Where did you get the seats from?

They were standard. Aren't you selling a set?

Yeah, but wondering what spec polo they are from. As yours is the only blue set I've seen and I'm selling the only set of brown I've ever seen (other than this!)

came with the car

1982 Polo breadvan CL

they are the ones that came with this particular car... i have the rears as well.. this set is mint minus a cigarette burn from the P/O that I'm going to fix!

Mine was a CL. Pretty sure the square pattern was a limited run. I did see another blue set actually in a monaco blue breadvan (not kerrlys)

I'm guessing this was imported. When, any ideas? Should take the show scene well over there, can't imagine there are too many mk2 polos rocking around the USA. Were they ever available to buy in the states?
