New to Club Polo - 6n2 1.4 16v owner

Alright chaps,

Joined up in the hope of sourcing some good info and tips about the Polo scene.

I'm good pals with Gaz (Gaz56) who recommended this place to me.

I recently picked up an X reg 6n2 Polo for my Girlfriend. Got it for £600 with a gearbox fault.

Sourced a GTi gearbox from a member on here, which arrived today. Chucked it in this evening, a surprisingly easy (2 hour) job all in, including clutch kit, and box oil replacement.

All in, with the clutch etc, the car so far only owes us £790, which I think is a bit of a bargain comparing it to what they seem to fetch on ebay.

Got loads of little bits in mind for the car (Well, Roxanne has). So will be adding threads over the next few weeks asking what does and doesnt fit etc.

The first big question, is what sort of drop is the car going to need, to sit nicely on Starmag 13x7 wheels, running 165/55-13 tyres (Low profile and pretty stretched).

Is it going to have to be un-practically low to sit nice?

The only other option may be to fit some taller profile tyres (165/65) maybe. Just dont want to kill the look of the mags with stretch.

The wheels;

And Rox's first addition to the car. Gotta love a bit of Paedo Bear!

Look forward to getting to know some of the regulars and making use of the classified section if it's any good.

Cheers,

Ben

Damn...

Shame as they go on my Kangoo with 20mm wheel spacers, they are just too small for the van.

Didnt realize they wont clear the 6n2 brakes. I see so many 6n's with these wheels on, assumed they'd be on the same/similar running gear.

Ben

It is, but it's because you've got the 16v - which has different hubs (256mm brakes), rather than the smaller 8v ones (239mm)..

But looks lovely! :)

Ah I see.

Well while fitting a tyre on the NSR today, I noticed it's got a snapped wheel bolt. DOH!

Broken near flush to the hub, so if it wont come out with a bit of drilling or an easy out, I'll end up replacing the hub.

How you getting on with it then

If it's near the hub, can you not get a pair of moles on it?

Or get a dremel, cut a slot in the shaft of the bolt and use a screw driver to get it out? Now it's snapped, there should be no tension holding the bolt in, so it should just come right out! :)
