What fluid for power steering on my 6n 1.4?

Featured Replies

Right then people... went to see my mechanic friend cos the steering has been whaling and moaning and we discovered that the fluid is very low in this resevoir... It's obviously leaking as there is a tiny weep on one of the hoses....

I dont think the cap has ever been off judging by how hard it was to undo.

Anyway, he said its not "just power steering fluid"... so what do i buy?

Thanks in advance as always...

Normally it's automatic transmission fluid but here's the VW part number for it "Type of oil: Hydraulic oil Part No. G 002 000" listed @ 12.6 €uros / litre

Thanks for that Nige... I have just noticed that my local motor factors opens @ 8am so i should be able to go there first thing and get some sorted. It's just that sometimes, they will sell you and tell you anything just get you in and out of the door and didnt want them to sell me the wrong stuff.

Mechanic mate said its like an oil rather than just a power steering fluid. :?

Every other car I've owned with PAS I've just used autobox fluid and if my 6n had PAS that's what I'd use

RIGHT, final update and lesson to everyone... GSF is the other side of town for me. So i rang my local and independently run family owned motor factors' they said they stock what i need and will match the GSF price. 3minute drive away from me and its a job done. whiney moany steering noise gone, and oh happy days are back again.

As long as its green and not red any automotive hydro oil will do.....
