i m italian , please i need your help,

'm turning my car from AUA to AVY.

the engine is really very similar, I found those who say that my gearbox mounts on the engine avy

I wanted to know from you if you can actually change the mount

(Answer only if you are sure please. Gearbox code 085301107)

and what it does.

I have the complete engine

the speedometer

ECU - chip key

what else is it for?

i swapped a whole 1.4 AUA engine & gearbox & engine loom & interior loom for the 1.6 AVY POLO gti parts.

it all bolts in and wires connect up. compare the parts on the vagcat site, below, if that helps you out.

if you're wanting to use the AUA key you need to recode the engine ECU to match the immobiliser.

OR...

if you're wanting to use the AVY key & barrel lock you need to swap the little black immobiliser box under the dash. there is NO immobiliser in the clocks - keep the AUA 1.4 ones if you like, or use the shiney AVY 1.6 ones. immobilser is number 9 on this diagram: http://www.vagcat.com/epc/cat/vw/PO/2001/240/57/3023366/

the gearbox & engine mounts are all the same fitment on the 1.4 and 1.6. so it doesn't matter which you use.

you'd have a problem if you used a LUPO 6 speed gearbox as thats a hydraulic clutch. if you use all parts from a 5 speed gearbox, it will just bolt in and work.

if you have a 6 speed gearbox, you need all the hydraulic clutch set up, pedal box, and WHOLE SUBFRAME off the lupo...

if you've got the interior loom -no idea if the lupo and polo ones are the same

[[helpful tip: you don't need to undo the aircon pipes. just unbolt the pump & tie it out of the way when you swap the engine / gearbox.]]

I'm not convinced by the information on the lupo gearbox given by the previous poster, the difference between a lupo and polo gearbox is the bell housing, with the polo gearbox being an '085' and the lupo being an '02' , and as such it will not fit, you would need a lupo gti bottom end to fit the lupo gearbox.

Yes you can use your AUA gearbox fine! Although... You may well break it due to power. "Loom" is referring to wiring, for the electronics . A 'loom' is just a collection of wires wrapped or taped together, on a car you would have 'engine loom' 'dashboard loom' 'door looms' ' interior looms' these are all the separate wiring bundles.

You can not use your gearbox on the lupo gti engine, sorry

The engine casing on the lupo gti is different to the polo engines as its designed to bolt to the big golf gearbox, the polo and all the smaller engined lupo's use the smaller gearbox.

I know of one member on here who fitted the lupo gti engine and gearbox to his polo, but he never gave a lot of information on how he did this and what exactly was needed. If you use a polo gti engine it will be a straight swap for your engine, if you use the lupo engine you need to use the lupo gearbox and its a lot of extra work

Mclovin are you sure this???

There are many polo gti, fitted with the engine code avy, which is exactly the same of the lupo gti 6 speed.

how you can recognize the two motor then if the code and the same?

Right ! I've just re-read this several times, trying to figure out where it stated the engine will be coming from a lupo ! I didn't notice that in the title ! My apologies, that's why it looks like I contradicted myself!

Your AUA gearbox will definatly NOT fit an AVY from a lupo. As mclovin said, completely different gearbox casing design .

You're best off finding one of the lupo boxes and following rae's advice!

no worries I edited my original reply twice when I realised Lupo was in the title ssh I didn't read it in the text.

just save your money and buy a gti.

in my opinion it's not worth the effort and I wouldn't go through the hastle again.

if you do want to do it you'll need the lupo parts: engine, entire loom (if it even fits the polo), ecu, immobiliser box, key, gearbox, pedalbox, subframe, plus more probably

no no quiet renounce transplantation: (

a real shame and I'll explain why.

the engine of the VW Lupo was bought at the dealer with invoice as a spare.. purchased 01/2011. had only 33.000km.

was really a bargain.

but so the cost will be too big.

I know you're right, but unfortunately for us in Italy is not easy.

here is very difficult to sell an engine because a few do engine swap.

Then there is the problem that is almost impossible to find an engine with so few miles.

that the LUPO would have taken just for the miles (and of course for horses.)
