I've recently got hold of an uprated weber carb from a hilman imp, a larger inlet manifold, gt cam, gt exhaust system and strut brace. When asked why there was a growing pile of 'car bits' in the garage by my mother, I tell her "I'ts to help my car get through the winter. It's playing up and I'm worried its not going to run when it gets cold"

What excuses have other people used for filling the garage space or spending a fortune?

I dont make excuses, i say its my money and i work hard for it so i will do as i please with it :)

I put 15" wheels on my first car (6N) and told my mum i had to lower it for my insurance to be valid to put it back to standard height from factory. Obviously i was infact doing the opposite and voiding the insurance my mum had paid for lol.

My best not car related though is pretending to my parents for 2yrs i was at uni, i was actually getting myself in debt living in Cardiff living like a student.

Thats fucking hilarious! She bought it I take it? Did she not notice that most other polos were driving round with invalid insurance

No one else uses the garage so what ever is in there is my business.

But at the moment the front bedroom has a set of window winder mechs and assorted parcels, the hot water tank cupboard has spray paint tins in it, in the kitchen under the desk theres a set of Formel E polo clocks with Stop/Start valve, in th old caravan 2 grey/black mk2f seats, 2 Recaros from a Cavalier GSI and a set of Rials.

and my room is full of Club Polo stuff.

It's lucky me and my dad have 3 sheds we just put our old car parts in there because we might need them one day (not sure why we would need a 190e radiator with a brick through it)

When my sister left for uni last month she forbid me from using her room for car stuff

Had 4 BBS RM's in the living room of my parents house for 3 weeks while I accquired parts and built them up... Made a good mantel piece.... My excuse was the Garage was full (not really it's just really fucking cold...)

Not so much a lie, but I had a third poli on my drive that I had to break. I knew my dad would whinge about me having 'another old car' (and he'd have a point!) so for 6 months I didn't let him come round. Whenever mum and dad drove past the house, she'd have to distract him to make him look the other way. 6 months and he never did work our what was so interesting about the house over the road!

I did try and hide the fact that I purchased a set of bike carbs for the black polo..... they turned up a day early when she was working from home in a huge box

Its pretty much like that round my place. Parents will ask me to move stuff eventually, but arent that bothered. I once had 2 sets or wheels in the house. RH cups in the living room and BBS RA's with tyres in the kitchen. I also stored a MK3 polo interior in the living room for about 3 months. Mice would have had it in the shed!

When i was collecting stuff to build my MK1 (never happened . long story) I had every single panel. Wings, front panel, tailgate, sills in my room and scattered about.

I think the reason my parents arent bothered, is they are both Dub nuts too, and are just as bad for keeping parts in the house. Dad once had a MK2 Golf 16v inlet manifold and head in the house, and mom had all the interior, and most exterior trim. Bumpers etc. From her MK1 Golf in the house. I've also flushed out 2 radiators in the bath, but Mom doesnt know about that

Many years ago I organised a group by on suspension from Germany. I was at work when a truck reversed onto my parents drive and asked my mum where she wanted the pallet of suspension putting .

I simply said it was for me and a few friends as it was hard to get hold of suspension for older Polos over here, so I got it from Germany. She didn't seem too annoyed anyway .

My wife's past caring, she has a moan if there are engines literally everywhere or being left for several months, but as long as i'm getting on with something she doesn't mind. She goes schitz if i leave heavy shit on the lawnmower though.

I can build engines in the front room without hassle, as long as i don't damage anything..

My misses is the same, I've never tried to push my luck as far as building an engine in the living room tho

I had a head sat in pieces in the conservatory for a while, the Girl was fine with that. I've also had multiple engines knocking about the garden at various times, a stack of about 16 wheels, and the remnants of a broken coupe on the drive, then into the back garden under a massive plastic sheet for months She's been fine with that too. The coupe on the drive was the biggest upset for her, but even then it was the occasional comment of 'when are you selling it?'. I bought a huge shed though to store stuff in now as I'm fed up of travelling to one of the three areas I have shit stored in. She's happy as it gives her somewhere to store her bike!

i used the dish washer to clean my head.. and used the bath to parafin clean my block and stuff........ my mum didnt say a thing to me... but what she did moan about was that after i cleaned and made a mess in the house was that i was building the engine under the gazebo outside...... my mother is a strang creature ....

Me and my boyfriend both have ongoing mk1 Golf builds, so if I am nagging him to get his stuff off the dining table, it's only so I can get mine on there instead

my excuse for filling the garage with bits is.. mum I've bought dad a car..

its in bits so he has to build it to stop you moaning when he talks through your soaps..

I'm glad everyone else has the same problem, unfortunately my mam has ocd and doesn't take kindly to me using her kitchen as a scrap yard.
