Right, so I just wondered what people's tricks were when it comes to number plate fixing.

Obviously on a car with decent paint you dont want to be drilling holes, especially not if you have nice plates (you dont want screws through them) or you've just smoothed your bumper etc.

I've tried the adhesive pads but they struggle to stick to plastic bumpers, and I worry about them peeling lacquer off should I want to remove them on paint.

I want an easy way to swap between show plates and my real plates.

I was thinking velcro strips () but don't know how feasible that actually is. surrounds could work but how do you fix them without drilling holes?

I suppose what i'm really asking is, what do you use on your car?

So it is strong enough to hold them, and you can use them on bends like on front bumpers?

Foam backed double-sided tape "No More Nails" do one that's good, but a bit pricey.

Problem with that is swapping when it comes to shows :/

I used silicone on my polo, but i know someone who Velcroed his back plate on a GXS1300R and it has never come off.

I've never found any sticky pads that stay on. Tried 3 now, all end up hanging off one bit after a while. Any recommendations of brand?

You want some 3m VHB (very high bond tape) this has good adhesion and just requires some heat to remove. Also I think halfords do some pads called fixers or something along those lines. These are pretty good just make sure to clean the paint and plate before sticking usually alcohol/solvent wipes are good.

Haha, That happened to me, Not everyone thinks there velcro tho?

If someone wants your plates they will take them regardless of Velcro or a 3mm screw

Just like if you had sticky pads then? No-ones gonna know your plates are velcro'd on until they try and remove em. At that point they'll probably have removed them however they're fixed on.

Velcro is good. Just need to beware of removing the actual adhesive part of it from the paint as its sticky!

Degreasing the surface makes adhesion so much better though.

For your situation a few (maybe 3) vertical strips of 2" Velcro would be ideal

Velcro seems like the best option then, rather cheap too. Not heard of dual lock, is this better than Velcro?

Like someone else said, if someone wants your plates they'll have them whether they're stuck on screwed on or velcro'd!

Will remember to degrease! :) anyone had much experience with plate surrounds? Worth the money or not?

My mate uses some strong Velcro.

I went to swap his plates to his show ones and I was there for a good 5 mins peeling just one off, Pretty damn strong, So strong the sticky side stuck to the car was peeling off before the Velcro.

Everyone I know use Velcro, and have been doing so for the past 2/3 years.. Not one has been stolen.

If you put it on tight enough, nobody will get it off.

if you say so, darent do it myself specially in this area.. pikeys are on it for number plate theft!
